I bought this a few weeks ago from Indycals new line of Tamiya kits. I've always wanted to do Michael's first win car of the 1992 Belgium Grand Prix. I'm going to paint the green on using Indycals Masking Template. I'll be using TS-35 Park Green and TS-47 Chrome Yellow. I'll be using the complete set of Indycals which included the famous..... .... Mr. Cool himself.

I got a few more things done. I used cigarette box insulation for the heat shield under the exhaust. And YES its actually from a Camel box I found in our field walking the dogs which is by the road....along with all other trash that stupid people throw out the window - Keystone Beer, Cigarette boxes, McDonald bags.... Then I got the Park Green on the body with a little Chome Yellow on a few other parts.

I haven't seen much of you lately.....Yes indeed it really is Chrome Yellow, I guess its kinda like how the Williams cars were just TS-16 Yellow. The only time Camel Yellow is used is on the 1987 Tamiya Lotus.

Michael, just curious about your painting process. Obviously white primer and you're not layering colours. Are you using the rattle can or airbrushing the Tamiya paint?

I think you meant Calvin, but he is using the same technique I did. When I masked off what will be the yellow, I kept the 'negative' of the mask to use to mask off the green. There were some complex areas I had to fudge it a bit when masking the green, but for the most part it worked great. And I used the rattle cans.

And like Calvin I put down the green first as I felt that would be easier to mask-off when painted, than the yellow would be.

I most of the time never layer my paint jobs, especially Tamiya were most of the time the color is too transparent. I might of got away with layering this one but I wanted to make absolutely sure the green didn't get any darker and plus like what Michael said about not liking a paint edge.
BTW I always use the rattle can - I can get just as good of results with the Tamiya can than spending hours on end cleaning an airbrush. Plus I dont have any good paint setup to screw around with an airbrush.

BTW In my last picture on this thread I made a mistake on my paint job...can you tell what I did wrong? (this will turn into a learning moment)

Green on the lower part of the sidepods by the radiator opening. Jordan Yep but I fixed it by scraping off the green and just brushing on some yellow. (You cant even tell that I did it.) But now its done, not my best work but I spent many hours in the middle of the night working on this while in pain. And yes for those that know me pretty well I built 75% of this car standing up over my desk. (Intestinal disease will make you stand up when in pain) I had some trouble with the Testors clear not flowing out for some reason? But overall I had fun with this. Nice Work. The only bad thing about this site is that it gives me ideas about all the cars I want to build and I can't even keep up with my Indy car projects. TerryB
