Here is my latest completion, A.J. Foyt's 1967 Indianapolis 500-winning Coyote.
This car didn't make many headlines in the month of May until it took the lead in the closing stages of the race. This was the year of the Whooshmobile, Andy Granatelli's turbine powered car had set the Speedway on its ear with this revolutionary design. A jet engine powering a car in the Indianapolis 500, who aside from Granatelli would've thought of such a thing. The turbine power, four wheel drive and the great Parnelli Jones at the wheel promised a potent combination.
Jones seemingly had the race in hand that year dominating the race, but with three laps to go a six dollar part broke and ended Jones' bid to become a two-time winner. A.J. Foyt was one of the few cars that kept pace with the Turbine that day and took the lead and the win, Foyt having to drive through a crash on the front stretch to do so. This was Foyt's third 500 win and the first win for Goodyear since 1919.
This is Lance Seller's 1/25 scale kit built box stock with IndyCals decals. The paint is ScaleFinishes Poppy Red. I believe this car turned out quite nice, I wish the chin spoiler sat out a little further but all things considered this turned out quite nice. Thank you for looking!
