Also notice the darker tail cone. Maybe it got burnt in the fire?

No the 1939 car was number two. Here's Wilbur celebrating: Now does anybody know what the two decals are below the Boyle Spl. logo? Chris

I know the video says 1941 but I'm thinking it is actually 1939. I dont know if its just my eyes but isn't the font of the Boyle Spl. slightly thinner on the 1941 and slightly bolder on the 1939.

Ah but look at the Helmet, in 39 he wore a Silver Helmet with a yellow band around the bottom edge plus a dark tinted full visor, (as in this photo) that's in the film but not in the photo above, it's amazing how hard it is to tell the difference between the car in 1939 and 1941.

The more I look, I think Calvin is correct (I hate when that happens), I think the clip is the 1941 car, look at the windscreen. I don't think that is a race day clip, more likely a practice run. My Bad Craig

Just to ad to the confusion..1941, where did the tail go? Maybe this is the reason the tailcone in the vid is a slightly different color... a possible repair?

Shaw never raced the car after that crash. 1941 was the last prewar race. If you look at the clip, and the photos Duane linked, the garage next to his was burned in the fire, that is why I thought the clip was a practice run. Take Care Craig

Yeah, I goofed and thought the clip was 1939, but it is 1941. My first thought was the photo above was his race ending crash, but perhaps that photo is the reason for the different colored tail cone. The only thing is, that photo looks nothing like Indy.

This was Shaw's wreck on lap 151 , turn one of the 41 race. Shaw was Paralized from the acciddent (temporarily) and spent the next ten days hosbitalized from his injuries.

Don't you love the way they pulled Shaw, with a spinal injury, out of the car and put him on the stretcher. It is a wonder that more drivers were not killed back then.

Very cool! You really worked hard on this small sucker! The color looks correct. A lot of people think this car is metallic but they didn't use metalic paint pre WWII.

Good one, Russ. 1/43 is too small for my old eyes. What color did you use? Calvin is itching for another color debate. Take Care Craig
