Apologies if this is a bit of a stupid question (still an Indy noob). Is this car a Dallara IR05 like the hotwheels 1/24 die cast, or something else? I have a thing for the smoking cowboy cars and would like to do this one since it is the last I think to wear that livery.

Yes, the 2003 to 2011 Dallara were the same base car. Details vary by year but the car was essential the same. In fact, Wheldon won the 2011 Indy in an updated chassis built in 2003!
Just FYI, Helio Castroneves won his 3rd 500 in 2009 with the M@r1b0r0 colors but the car ran "Team Penske" on the sidepods as the smoking cowboy's brand name was not able to be run anymore. Philip Morris used this brand recognition technique for several years with trackside facilities to advertise for M@r1b0r0 specifically.
FYI Part 2, the board scrambles the name, when you type it in right it displays as above. No need to have the board pop up on a lawyer's search for that brand name.

Thanks Indy! from reading through the boards I had gathered that using the proper brand names for cig makers was a no no. Glad to see the board will catch me if I forget.
Second part of my question then. The only thing that jumps out to me as an obvious change to be made is the mirrors, soes any one know off hand or can point me towards some refs for any other major changes?

Both our own Michael (Indycals) and the IMS photo shop have great photos of that car. In the diecast section, you can find out how to take apart the donor diecast. Remember that all Penske cars have "chrome" suspension and wheels. Keep us up to date on your progress with photos, or Calvin will pick on you. The guys on this board are a great bunch, and always ready to help.

My biggest excuse by far really, is how much time I spend building lego things for me 5 year old. I can't hardly sit down without being handed his box O' blocks and having some elaborate thing or another demanded.  |
