I cast my vote for Clark Gable and Barbara Stanwyk's "To Please A Lady" Sure it has flaws but the story is well done and racing action is not that bad.

I'd have to say that Winning is my favorite Indy Movie. I hope that no ones favorite is Driven. That was a total waste of film.

For a second there, I was going to say Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom. OOOPS..
Seriously, I can't say that I've seen any movie, Winning included, about Indy. Now if you're talking about IndyCar, I'll go with Speedway.

An old Mickey Rooney movie called "The Big Wheel" (1949). The plot is pretty corny, but there's lots of great 40's sprint and midget footage, before Cannonball Coy, (Rooney's character) gets to the big track at Indianapolis... Tom T.

Come on Driven was the high point in automotive themed theatrical releases. ;D I'm ashamed to say this but I was an extra in Driven. I'm one of a group of corner workers in the accident at turn 3 in the Toronto race. I've been a corner worker for 22 years and worked every Toronto race since the 86 race. The film company asked for paid extras to shoot some post race footage on the Monday after the race. Easiest 900 bucks I ever made. But it's still a sh**y movie.

Wasn't there a movie done in the 30's with James Cagney about Indy? I'm not sure of the title I think it was call "The Roar of the Crowd " or maybe it was " And the Crowd Roared. " I saw it on a one of those late night moves one watches when on a drinking binge during finals. ;D

Kitbash1~ I google James Cagney and found a movie called "The Crowd Roars" (1932). Lots of cameos from the great drivers of that era ( Wilbur Shaw, Louis Schneider, Billy Arnold, etc.). Never seen that one but I would like to.... Tom T.

i have to agree on "the big wheel". corny but good footage. the guy getting burned to death in the car still gives me the creeps even though it's just a movie. we all know that happened way to often back then. duane

A guy I used to be friends with and I are in crowd scenes at the old Chicago Motor Speedway.

Okay...I'll wade in on this topic.
I HATED "DRIVEN"!!!!!!!! They should have sub-titles under Stallone when he mumbles or tries to speak English. One word come to mind when I hear the title "Driven"....excrement. pure excrement!
This one is not good either, it's a bit better though. It was shot at Indy too. "Winning" is far from a good movie, but it's passable due to the good shots of those cars. Universal Studios still own the Shelby Turbine from 1968, it was used as a promo car at the opening. Even with the bad romance, poor acting by Robert Wagner and Richard Thomas....."Winning" isn't good, but it's guilty pleasure. "To Please a Lady" is much better!
Anyone that has bough a DVD or tape from Rare Sports Films and Doak Ewing, knows how good his films on Indy are. They are fantastic! My absolute favorite film on Indy is.......From Dynamic Flims...."The Golden Anniversary 500." Great color and restored footage of the 1961 500 and the great Sachs, Foyt duel on the bricks! Footage you won't get from the Speedways Tape......this is a classic!
Best to you
Russ

Hey Russ,
Are you sure you didn't mean to type excitement instead of excretement? We are talking about a timeless classic here...
Subtitles for Stallone...What a HOOT!!!!!
