I started on this a heck of a long time ago..... The last "dirt car" to win the 500 and at the age of 22 years and 80 days Troy was the youngest winner.

I used to run on 12 but then I got sick last year, and I really dont have as much energy since and I'm not back to normal yet.....I just have a lot of time on my hands is what makes the difference! But to be honest with you, model building is about the most I can push myself.

Another neat subject. By the way whose kits are these? Dave Bill J. did these back in the day.....Lance Sellers owns the master to the 1951 Winner, but I have no idea who has the 1952 Winner as of now?

I've built a number of Bills cars and have quite a few on the shelf. Challenging subjects and prone to pin holes..but nice subjects!

OT: I actually did an expensive blood test not to long ago for food intolerance and one of the highest on the list for being bad for me was coffee. I don't like coffee anyways so no big deal.....

Calvin, This looks good. I enjoy watching your WIPs. I am fascinated by your assembly and painting sequence in that you assemble some parts first and then paint over them. I tend to go the other way which seems more tedious and I get fingerprints all over the finish coat as I put the damn thing together. How do you get the correct color detail on parts like the suspension and axles? Thanks for sharing. Jim

Jim My building technique is more about making less mistakes. and to me assembling things as much as possible before the paint job is important. Also making sure they are strong is important to me as well. The axels are completely held in with milliput - they are not going anywhere at all - I couldn't have done that after the paint job. as for getting paint on parts, well...I dont really like to but for some parts it just really doesn't matter really that much....I just paint it with a brush afterwards and give them a black wash to give it depth. But over all to sum it up - its all about making less mistakes, less stress, and making strength.

I was able to set the 52 winner in the sun for a little bit today in hopes of making the dreaded yellow bleach out - it looks like it helped but it needs more hours in the sun.....

I feel too old to be building this car as Troy was 23 when he won the race and I'm building this as a 26 year old. Sorry I have the white balance off on the camera and the white should be more cream color (Just pretend )

I got the 52 winner done - I'm happy with it! The last time a dirt car made it to victory lane in the greatest race in the world.

MJ PS - beautiful build, as always. And probably took you as long to finish as I take setting up the portable spray booth!
