Hi, I've got a AMT Lola 8800 in the very early stages, it will probably end up as Mario's red Hanna car- subject to a change of mind or mood swings. The instructions call for the rear axel to be painted black. On some finished models it's been painted a kind of burnt orangeish, bronze looking color. I couldn't find any real car color pictures showing this. What's correct? Can anyone expand on this? Thanks, Sandy

The bronze-like color is more accurate. I have some pics here of the March 85C in Penske's Museum and the rear axle is definitely this metalic color.

I mix a little copper with silver to get what I feel is a close color.

Thanks guys! Both sound good and certainly better than black. Sandy

One thing I did like about the AMT kits was the fact that they included pictures of the actual car on the boxes, Especially the side panels, a lot of *color* affirmation is there. The white car from the kit box should be pretty much identical in all the detail colors as the one year earlier, red car.

I like to use 1/8" copper tubing for the rear axles. Also, I used to have a can of Plasticoat Odd's n Ends Antique Gold - man that was the best paint ever. Gave a nice copperish finish, went on nice and smooth and THIN. And despite being enamel, it dried fast and strong. Got it at Wal-Mart but now I cant' find it anymore. This isn't the best shot, but I did use Antique Gold on the driveshaft on this and the tips of the electrical connectors on the Tag box:

Follow up - I finally found the Antique Gold again, only instead of Plasticoat, it was labeled ad Valspar and I found it at Michael's. It is the same paint, as they are both called "Odds 'n Ends" and the Plasticoat can indicates it's a Valspar company.
