Growing up in San Diego in the '70's Bill Muncey was legendary. I used to watch them race (from afar) on Mission Bay every year. Bill was a great spokesperson for the sport and incredible driver too! Miss Renault actually won a race in 1983 at Clear Lake Texas. She also competed in 1984 with a more convention rear wing.

Love seeing these WIPs on the hydroplanes. My dad grew up in Bay City (Michigan, I now live just up the road in Midland), and still talks about how as a teenager he and his buddies would get up before dawn to get out on a boat on Saginaw Bay just to watch Les Staudacher test out his latest creation out of Kawkawlin while it was still calm. Very tempting to get one of these kits. Here's some more on Staudacher: www.thunderboats.org/history/history0418.htmlThanks, interesting story! I've been working on one of Staudachers boats, the Miss Eagle Electric. mb2501.proboards.com/thread/5640/eagle-electric-unlimited-hydroplane-resin

I got to also to see the 1973 Pay 'N Pak as well! Lots of people are excited about this one. Hopefully next year it will be ready! If only I lived closer I'd volunteer to help work on this.

Had to respond here, because a certain boat showed up in a new T-Mobile commercial.

It has not gone unnoticed on TV. I do not see much TV but I definitely have noticed that favorite of Calvin's in the pool!

Yes! I thought it was pretty cool! Its been talked about a bunch in the hydroplane community a bunch last month. When they hauled it down to southern California last month everyone was like! What is going on? Why is the Pay n Pak in a pool!?!? It was top secret for about a week after the filming LOL

Hey Calvin, I’m going to the Seattle IPMS Spring Show in Renton in a couple of weeks. Anything new at the Hydroplane Museum? I haven’t been there in a couple of years.

Paul Erlendson I haven't been there in more than a year. But I know the Pay N' Pak, 1958 Miss Bardahl, and the current construction of the 1979 Squire Shop is new since you were last there. The 1957 Miss Wahoo and 1958 Miss Bardahl will be in the Tri-cities test day next June 1st and I fixed the pictures on this thread and got them off STUPID Photobucket

Yes its "Hollywood" and we know that's not how the Rolls-Royce engine sounds and the roostertail looks like a sprinkler but its cool to see this boat on TV that millions have watched.
