Brian....
This reminds me of the time I, so magically stuck my foot in my mouth at one of Bob Keller's Kit Collector Conventions in Beuna Park, California.
There are 100"s of vendors with tables stacked high with old model kits. There is this little guy that kind of looks like Joe Perterno, the Penn State Football Coach but with much thicker glasses. I forgot his real name, but many there call him the "Mergatroid"....He looks like he was weenied on a pickel. He has many kits on his tabel and has no prces on them.....NONE!. He had on his tabel, in the original box, the AMT Williard Battery Special kit, I was picking them up for about $8.00 then. This was in 1986.
So I asked him what was the price for it, I was thinking I may buy it. He snaps, "$75.00, take or leave it!" I was taken aback by such a high price...Was this nut on crack!?!?! I recovered quickly and then asked, "Okay, now without the blow job, how much is ir?" Many that were standing there laughed and I thought , "You did it again." The little guy was ticked off and many left the area....laughing.
For the rest of the day, people were walking up to me asking me, "You really didn't say to the "Mergatroid," "Now with out the blow job, how much is it?" Yes I did.......I still get asked that question for guys who were there.
I saw this guys prices and thought the same thing! 99.00 for an AMT Lotus?!?!?!!?
Best to you
Russ

Hey Russ, nice comeback with the "Mergatroid"! I couldn't believe this guy's prices and for the least useful of the 3 Hall of Fame kits, too! I can still find complete HoF sets for $25 or less around here.
Happy New Year, Brian

Hey Brian...
Actually, the Lotus 29 from the Hall of Fame kit just maybe the most accurate of the three.....You can get some good cars out of that sucker and it's close from Bob Clidinst'd drawings...You can make either 63 lotus from it...or with a little work, get Clark's and Marshman's 64 rides from it...or Parnelli's and Foyt's 65 rides......It just take some works is all.
Best to you
Russ

heavens to mergatroid there russ!. that's my kind of sarcasm! we used to have a father's day model contest / swap meet every year always attended by this one guy with a trailer full of high priced kits who never seemed to sell anything and refused to negotiate at all. he's probably got it in his will to be buried with them! duane

I wouldn't call it inflation, I'd call it price gouging! This is the type of person that truely hurts the hobby.
