Planning on doing a conversion on a Revell Mercedes to a Brawn GP. The nose will need raising Also the rear and middle will need work. Any suggestions before starting?

Not a bad place to start but maybe the McLaren MP4-20 is a better base.

I have not studied the shapes enough to give you input but way to go on this ambitious project! I'll be watching for sure.

Ambitious project, but at least given how clean and free of logos the original car was, it is pretty easy to pick out the subtle shapes enough to make such a conversion at least look like it is in the ballpark. Can't wait to see the results!

Are you going to use the Pattos decals? If so, they will dictate a lot of your contours, especially around the nose area. Also, if you don’t have it, the Giorgio Piola book on the 2009 season will be of help. I just checked mine and it has some great side view drawings, but no plan view that I found. Another option for drawings are the Tameo 1/43rd scale kit instructions. They usually have great plan drawings and will publish a particular kit plan on their website if you ask nicely. Good luck with your project. I’m interested to see how it will turn out. Paul Erlendson

Thanks for your ideas. I've been filling it, sanding, filling, sanding... I'll get some photos at the weekend.

I have a half built Mercedes kit if you need parts. I got in way over my head.
Also have a Ferarri F2007 kit unopened.

Primed it, wasn't happy with airbox so some more tweaking. It's hard to see the shape with it being white. I've put it next to the original Mercedes to show the differences

Still scratching my head about the front wing. The Brawn has 3 parts whilst the Merc has only 2. I'm really scared to cut it and ruin it! I was thinking about using some sort of line (decal maybe) to give the impression of a gap. Not sure if it'll work...

I wish I could start from the beginning. So many mistakes, but I learnt alot!

I like it! Its hard doing a conversion. This is prolly the first plastic Brawn build I've seen. Stduio 27 did do a Muilti media kit ($200)
It was quite the deal when this team dominated over the well known teams.

I like the end result. You did a nice job and the lessons learned will serve you well in the future! BTW, we can't see all the issues - we are our own harshest critics. Jordan

I have to agree with Indy in both respects. You can see the shapes better than I. These modern F1s all look the same to me! Duh, I can't believe I just said that!!
