I need to do something fun for myself I need to build something easy and fun to cheer myself up. I haven't been feeling that well lately and have been getting really tired of scratch building. I need to keep my mind busy and off of my disease . IMO this is the best indycar model EVER! When I say best I mean very well made and designed to be a good kit. I'm doing the raced version of this 1960 winner so that means I'll have to knock out the left side panel.....and slightly modify the nose and oil tank. So the ole Dremel came out and ground out the side.... I'm going to use a Kurtis Offy to shove in there - you will barely see the engine so I'm not worried too much about hard core detail.

Looks like a cool project, Calvin. I was admiring my latest Etzel acquisition and was thinking that he must be truly gifted and deeply OCD. LOL
Can' wait to see it come together!

I, too, am a bit tired of scratch-bashing so much. The 637 has taken its toll on me. I'm going to do some "out of the box" projects next and set the scratch stuff aside for a while. This looks like a fun project for you so enjoy what we like to do best...build'um. Patrick

I agree, Calvin. One of, if not the best kits ever. A nice, low stress project. I hope you feel better soon, a lot of people are pulling for you. Take Care Craig

I was admiring my latest Etzel acquisition and was thinking that he must be truly gifted and deeply OCD. LOL Yep, My goal someday is to be able to produce kits as nice as what Etzel did. I look at some of things on his kits, and I just shake my head in disbelief.

I got the cockpit mostly assembled for now....and I also got the fab work done on the opened side panel area. The gun metal on the engine is only a base coat and nothing final.... Next will be bodywork prep....

I got it painted! It came out beautiful! I used Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue. IMO is a GREAT match to 1959 Oldsmoblie Sapphire Mist which is the color used on this 1960 winner. This picture is very close to what it looks like in real life.

Wow, Calvin, that is a beautiful looking build. Awesome progress and I've wanted this color for a different build so that's a great tip on the Tamiya equivalent.

I use Micro-Set and Micro-Sol. Does any one use any other form of decal solvent and softener. It has always worked well for me. Just can't do much with the decal after the Micro-Sol has been applied. Very nice build on this one.

Beautiful looking build and I love the paint. It takes a special kind to cut up an Etzel kit but you did it and did it well!
