Title says it all. I blame the movie "Rush" for putting me on an F1 model kit kick of late. I have 1/20 scale covered to do Hunt's car from 1976, but I have also been eyeing the 1/12 McLarens as well. So as I understand it, the M@r1b0r0 McLaren driven by Fittipaldi came first from Tamiya, followed by the Yardley McLaren kit with its higher airbox. While the Emmo Mclaren looks nice, the taller airbox as was seen mid-way and late in the 1974 season just seems to look better to me. So my question is, could I get a Yardley McLaren and slap some aftermarket decals on it to do Emmo's car more or less out of the box, or am I better off getting the proper McLaren kit and perhaps just swapping the airboxes instead?
So in simpler terms, how much in common are the plastic bits in the two kits?

Have you checked out Macsmodeling for updates on this kit? He is making resin parts for the McLaren M23 for updated cars.
