Didn't know what to expect, but it was worth the hype and the wait. A great flashback to the scary days of F1. Good story lines, well written and so nice to see so many original cars! A very enjoyable film!!

I'm doing a matinee this afternoon. I'll probably be the only one there, which is fine by me.

John: I thought the same thing but there were 18 people at the 1 o'clock showing when I went Friday...it is a very good film; however it shows more story than racing...but the racing shots are incredible...views of the valves moving, suspension traveling, cars getting airborne over bumps, and more unusual, never before seen , perspectives of everything...the cinematography is mind blowing...it will take you back to the 70's and all of it's excesses...it earns it's "R" with naked bodies, Lauda's burns, and it does get graphic a few times...I agree that Bruhl steals the show...it is not a flattering depiction and Herr Lauda still liked it when he saw it...good actors can use a great script to make you care about a heel, and Bruhl delivers... GO SEE IT! Not for a documentary on the 76 season, but as great adult film making...be reminded that the heroes we admire all have feet of clay, but they also rise to challenges most of us will never face... Tim
PS: I'm going back with a friend tomorrow-tj

I just got back from the movie. Tim's right, there's more story than racing, which I think is what they were after. Just a great job of story telling, and Bruhl was great. It was easy to draw comparisons between Zanardi and Lauda as far as being courageous. I was also touched by how fortunate these two drivers were to have such wonderful wives to see them through their tragedies. Just a wonderful job of bringing a human element to all the players involved in those events. Lauda's statement about Hunt at the very end of the movie was very touching. I would hope everyone would look past any inaccuracies they might notice and just wrap their arms around the story, it's one for the ages.

Great movie, with a great story line. I was surprised how much each character looked like the real person and Bruhl was amazing. My wife even enjoyed it “for a racing movie”. A bit dirty at times for our taste but that’s how Hunt was. I may have to go back and see it again.

I thought it was utterly brilliant, Loved every minute of it, the attention to detail for the most part was just amazing, the six wheeled tyrrell, Enzo Ferrari at Fiorano, even british F1 commentator Simon Taylor was the commentator during most of the races, the soundtrack was outstanding, and the feel of the 1970s and its excesses were also very realistic, i'd love to see it again. 9/10 for me. Bruhl nailed it as Lauda, and there were a few moments Hemsworth looked like Hunt, one of his best movies !

Funny thing is, from what I've read, they really toned down Hunt's, um, success with the ladies. Reading about his antics leading up to the Japan GP is funny, but a bit crazy. I believe it was Patrick Head that walked into the wrong garage right before the start and found Hunt "involved" with a local girl. Just before he puked. MJ

Well, they also sort of toned down Hunt's drug use as well, saying he wasn't much more than a grass smoker. Max Mosley told a story of him and Hunt visiting a flat in Brazil a few days before the 76 Grand Prix and Hunt did two lines of coke before they went on their merry way. At least the kept the "upchuck" aspect of Hunt.
All in all, a great film and it got me back on an F1 kick. I also agree that Bruhl did practically steal the show as Lauda. Seeing the representation of Hunt's epic Japan Grand Prix drive got my heart a pumping though with the rain, the spray and the confusion brought about by the fog. That was an epic drive.
