I think the bickering amongst the fans is a bigger problem. I've said it before - every time I enjoy a race I end up wandering to trackforum to find out how bad it sucked. Indycar's 'fans' are it's biggest enemy. And it's a shame because this season F1 sucks and Indycar should be capitalizing on that.

The more that i watch i am a fan but the moment the race is over fans are talking about how bad the racing was and such. Trackforum is a cancer.

I was surprised to see GoDaddy stay after Danica left. Hinch seemed to be a great for their branding. So, I'm sad to see them go. IndyCar needs money to run and it will be a hard void to fill for AA.
I think the awful TV package with limited viewership on most races really hurts IICS team with sponsors. Hopefully NBCS is going to be much more mainstream as NASCAR fans demand the channel in 2015. It can't hurt IICS to have NBCS in more households so the faster they expand, the better.

Sponsors come and sponsors go. As for Go-Daddy, if they dump Hinch and keep Danica, their focus certainly is not on running up front and winning races. If they are content to support a back marker, then that says a lot about how I perceive their company. Michael's points are well made as well, I don't read Track Forum.

Sponsors may come and go, but mostly, they seem to go. If Go Daddy is replaced at AA, it likely will depend upon who Munoz brings to the table, and probably have no meaning to US fans. I have long maintained that the series needs to decide what it wants to be. They went with the street circuit route, and we know how well that works out. I have seen nothing over the last five years that gives me any confidence in the long-term (or short-term for that matter) health of the series. Danica may be a back-marker in NASCAR, but Go Daddy isn't interested in losing money, so that should tell you everything you need to know about their sponsorship decisions, which rarely comes down on the open-wheel side. I like Hinch a lot, but I don't know where he goes if he loses that ride. The guy that should go at Andretti is Marco, but I think we all know the odds of that happening. I far prefer Indycars, but the series has made it extremely difficult for me to care. I know that I'm not on the top of their priority list, but I'm not sure who is, and I don't even think the series knows. Rant over.

The racing is great, the drivers are compelling and some of the best in the world and the cars, though not beautiful, almost look like a '93 Lola compared to F1 cars. I don't read Track Forum for that reason and try to not look at the comments on Indycar articles on Racer.com. Though sometimes I can't help myself and have to respond. I really think the whole super-critical attitude has it's roots in the split. Both sides are used to bitching over the last 17 years and now it's the new normal. I love Indycars. I went to Indy and Sonoma this year, and will go to Fontana. And took in some sprints & midgets along the way. That way, I KNOW I'm watching the best racing in the world. MJ

To an extent, the product on the track is not the problem, it is the off-track meanderings of IndyCar. The schedule makers need to get their heads examined. There is way too many gaps to maintain any kind of positive fan interest. I am surprised that more marquee sponsors haven't jumped. Sponsorship is an eyeball thing and there are not enough with these gaps. What does encourage me is the fact that Road America is being added....maybe in 2015. Get the Michigan oval added and lets get some schedule continuity going.
Would also like to see teams allowed to do the much ballyhooed aero packages and unleash the horsepower. Loved Foyt's dismissal of doing an Indy road course before the 500. Still think that is a dumb idea. Would much rather see a 6 hour sportscar race in a united field than Indycar on the infield.

I take a different stance. Every race held at Indy is a reason to go to a race at Indy instead of the 500. Same problem they had in 1909 and 1910 - a watered down product and dwindling crowds. I think the solution is the same one they had for 1911. But not only is there a time gap, but there is a big geographical gap - nothing west of Dallas (which is still the eastern half of the US) until you get all the way to the pacific ocean. Denver, Phoenix, Vegas, Salt Lake - all very viable large markets, all tourist destination, and in Denver's case - a major hub (6th largest airport in the US). And yes, I'm biased toward Denver
