While watching a DVD of the '48 Indy 500 (thanks racerbrown!) I took notice of an lfa #48, IIRC. It looked to be a typo 158/159 like the Merit/Smer kit with a possible couple of minor changes. I would REALLY love to build this model (I have a couple Alfa kits) but I need some reference and pictures, etc., so does anyone know about this car? With the film being in color, I know it was Italian Red, but there wasn't much on the film showing it. HELP!!!!!! ;D Mongo

Is this the car? It's an Alfa Romeo 308 and is available in resin from Profil24. I got mine from Stradasports. Since it's a pre-war GP car it does not come with Indy 500 decals or tires. It does include a beautiful photo-etch grill and wheels though. Chet Miller drove the car at Indy in 1940, Louis Durant in '46, Walt Brown in '47 and pictured below is Johnny Mauro in '48. Maybe Indycals could be convinced to do up the markings and I'll see if the big old slicks from the Hawk Mercedes W163 will fit the wheels. Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

Thanks! That DOES look a whole lot like the car in the film. I
was wondering if it could be made with a Merit/SMER Alfa typo158, but it does look a bit different.
