Calvin has a cattle prod, and he knows how to use it. No I wouldn't use it. I dont even know how to rope a cow properly - In FFA I roped myself in front of all the hot cowgirls.

Don't tell him that, Calvin. We have to keep him motivated. You sound like me, I never miss a chance to humiliate myself in public, usually on the golf course.

A little more progress today, SMTS gives you a template for mounting the oil tank. Should have done this BEFORE primeing. Duh. As with any kit, but ESPECIALLY with 'Forty Three's', test fit, Test Fit, TEST FIT,

I got a little more done over the weekend. Tested the Tam French Blue over gray and white base coats and the white gives the best look by far. Suspension parts and the wheels which appear to be highly polished were airbrushed with Alcad. Seat and other small stuff painted as well. Hope to spray the blue this week.

I did some painting today using Tamiya French Blue. Without having an actual paint sample this seems a pretty good match.

Thanks guys. A few days of drying time and then a little buffing for a couple small glitches and then start the detail painting. Whats the earliest that anyone has buffed Tamiya paint after spraying?

Whats the earliest that anyone has buffed Tamiya paint after spraying? After the bugs stop sticking to it.

Racing along like a snail on Red Bull, I've gotten to some detail painting. On small areas I outline them with a small sharp point artist pen (this gives a sharp, clean edge) then fill it in with the larger artist 'brush' pen. They're water color so any slip cleans up easily with a damp q-tip. Then make a simple mask and airbrush a light coat of clear to seal it. Always open to suggestions and comments... Had a very weird thing happen last night, I dreamed I was a young man again, not an old coot... oops, wrong thing, this is it- I cleaned up my work bench (yep, big mistake, never do this!) and put down a clean paper towel- Scott's - this morning it had etched into the Tamiya paint! I kid you not. The Watson chassis had been sitting bottom down on it and I had to sand the bottom and re-paint today. Never, ever had that happen.

The decals and clear coat are on, but there's a little more touch up to do then start putting it all together. I used Testor's 'Wet Look' clear lacquer that some one here mentioned. It worked really well sprayed out of the can, it dried quick and hard with a nice shine and didn't harm the Indycal decals. I warmed the can like you would do with a Tamiya can and it came out like gangbusters, maybe too much. This is something that I need to experiment with some more. It puddled in a few spots which had to be sanded out, but this was really just first use operator error. I'd say it's pretty good stuff and will use it again. Michael, just a thought, how about some tire decals that are not pure white. How about some that are an off white/dirty white that would look more 'used' than bright white ones.

Very nicely done. It looks really good and can't wait to see it together. Its great to know about the clear as well. I bought a can of both testor's clears and have yet to try them. I also bought some automotive paint and clear as well to try out for another project. I hope it works out because the cans are alot bigger. Anyway it looks great!

After side tracking a bit it's back to the Watson. Just put a lot of real small suspension parts on. The 'snaps' on the upholstery are rivet decals from Indycal. Sandy

Well, I'm throwing the flag and calling this one done, hope you guys like it. Michael's decals were great and his suggestion of the Tamiya blue was right on the money. The Testor's "Wet Look" clear is excellent and recommended. The SMTS 1/43 white metal kit was very good, a bit 'stubborn' at times but a fun build. Sandy I've been trying to upload this second photo for 30 minutes, but Photobucket isn't cooperating today-

Looks real good, Sandy. My advice, dump Photobucket, and go to IMGUR. Much better IMO. Craig
