I am Hugh Boulden. My screen name tells a lot about who my favorite mechanic was in NASCAR and at Indy. I began modeling in 1961, and became both an Indy fan and an F1 fan in 1962. Between 1970 and 1993, I attended all but about 4 first days of time trials at Indy. I only went to the 500 in 1971. Time trial days were better for getting close to the cars and getting good photos for modeling purppose, and for creating a photographic record of history.
I went to my first GP at Watkins Glen in 1976, and returned in '77 and '78. I, also, attended the 1982 and 1985 Detroit Grands Prix.
Though I grew up in North Carolina, and was primarily a stock car fan for years, I now prefer F1 and the ALMS. I still keep my May weekends free to watch everything I can from Indy and Monaco on TV. There's nowhere I would rather be in May than IMS. To me that is springtime!
