Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone has good reference pics of the Lola T91/00 in comparison to the other Lola T92/T93 cars. I am trying to reshape a 1/43 Minichamps T92 to a T91 and I need to know exactly what has to be changed. I don't have exact pictures of how the nose and engine cowling have to be.
Hope you guys can help me out a bit.

1993 cars have a longer nose. After all the foot and ankle injuries during the previous years they increased the crash protection in front of the feet in the 1993 rules.

It looks like it depends on what engine the car has... particularly in 1992.
Here's what I notice:
A HUGE front suspension re-arrangement between 1991 and 1992. The upper A-arms on the 91 were positioned extremely far forward. The front upper a-arm mounting point sat considerably farther forward than the lower a-arm front mounting point. In 1992 that front upper monting point was moved by a lot, now positioned barely in front of the pushrod mount point.
In 1992 the Ford Entries received a slimmed down engine cover that was similar to the 1993 car. The Chevy cars appear to have retained the wider engine cover similar to what had been in use from 1990.
It also looks to me not so much that the 93 had a longer nose, but a longer tub. The bolt-on part of the nose actually looks shorter in 93 than it does in 92, due to the tub itself being longer.
Bottom line - you will have to study the cars you want to do carefully - even within a given year there are variations.

Thanks for the help guys, it gives me some things to think about. I understand the suspension has been changed. I got that covered by drawing a new front suspension regarding the longer arms attached to the body. A friend of mine will make a Photo Etched set of it. It doesn't look that the sitting position of the driver has changed much since 1991. My idea is that the nose is really shorter. The rear cowling needs to be much more like the 1990 version, same as the rear wing. I got the T91 - T92 and T93 lined up here. To spot the differences. I think I don't have to explain which 1991 car I would like to build

Thank you Michael, that's a much better explanation. I guess I didn't phrase it right. I believe that they added a bulkhead in front of the pedals for extra crash protection which extended the nose part of the chassis, not the actual nose cone. Have you looked at the Onyx cars of this era? They aren't perfect but they might be useful in some capacity. Just a thought to consider. Jordan

Would an Onyx chassis be an easier starting point for a 1991 lola?

Maybe your guys right about Onyx, I have an T90 of Luyendyk. But they look so damn poor and lots of details missing. I think I model the T93 like that one a bit.

I'd love to see your work when done, I have some of Michael's decals on standby and realy, really want to convert some T9300's from the 1993 Indy 500. The biggest difference I notice (although many are there like pointed out above) is really the rear wing. I know it's sacrilege to a true replica modeler, but a 1/43 1993 Lola converted to a 1992 by placing an Onyx wing on the rear isn't the end of the world to me. I just like to have the car on display and I can't imagine we'll ever see that era produced in 1/43 again sadly. I plan on making the 1992 Pole Sitting Guerrero car out of a Minichamps for instance by just a little sanding, painting, decaling and crafting a new rear wing. I have gazillions of NASCAR diecast conversions like the one below (Starter decals + a Revell Conversion), but shockingly, despite my love of the Indy 500 have yet to do one for Indy....

H'm about the detailing of the Onyx again, they all came visible once the paint was off. Way to thick painted. I will open a working topic in the diecast section tomorrow of the progress.
