Are the front wings long enough? Maybe the front tire positions are throwing me off on that.

Calvin, You have amazing eyes ! You take a glop of putty and a block of wood and PRESTO-ZINGO you have a current Indy car. I'd crap-out and not finish what I started if it was me . Amazing!! Patrick I dont know you amaze me with all the scratch builds you do! Turning Cobra's into Ferrari's! It doesn't get any better than that!

Are the front wings long enough? Maybe the front tire positions are throwing me off on that. I dont know....I think the wings are correct? It might because they dont have the side plates on them? But as for the overall nose.....IMO the whole geometry is still off? I sprayed some primer on but it still doesn't look right at all.... I'm not seeing what is wrong yet....its very puzzling at the moment.... Maybe I should clean it up and paint it red? Just to help the eyes even better? My car has a stupid short stubby look to it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I still think it has that "toyish" or "cartoonish" look to it still.....its not taken on that "realistic" look yet... This kinda reminds me on my 84 March - there was a point were it went from "toyish/Cartoonish" to a realistic look.

Your nose on the D12 looks 1000 times better then I could do. It's hard to tell but I think the underside of the nose on the real car stays almost parallel to the ground for about a foot or two. I also think the top of the nose has a very slight curve from the tip back with the actual tip being a bit pointier. The front wing on the real car looks to me as if it is mounted a little lower, almost as if it's bolted to the bottom of the nose and lastly with the body of your car sitting on the ground maybe the front wings should be closer to the ground?

Just comparing the side views ...
Does it look like the side of the cockpit is too tall? The distance from the top of the side pod to the top of the drivers head surround looks to me to be too tall. Possibly the height of the entire air box looks a bit too tall as well. It might just be lighting or the view angle.
The arc of the drivers head surround on the on the Target car looks to be concave. The arc on the model looks convex.
I agree with John ... the bottom of the nose going back towards the front wheels seems to be parallel to the road surface on the Target car. The model nose seems to angle down from front to rear.

Thanks for the comments! I like to hear everyone's opinions! I take note of what everyone says, because everyone sees everything differently and it might help me see something I'm not getting. So, with that said, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT OFFENDING ME! I'm too easy going to worry about that stuff! I want us to have an accurate model, not hurt personal feelings! What makes me mad is a toy/cartoon looking model! So, let it out! I want to hear it all!

I also think the top of the nose has a very slight curve from the tip back with the actual tip being a bit pointier. I'm just not seeing that, I'm not an expert in aerodynamics but I dont think that would be proper to have a curved top? Usually everything is flat or straight if you will....When I did the 1982 Wildcat and 83-84 Marches, Michael P. was always telling me to straighten out the tops of the noses, because I would always have an "arc/curve thing" going on. The front wing on the real car looks to me as if it is mounted a little lower, almost as if it's bolted to the bottom of the nose and lastly with the body of your car sitting on the ground maybe the front wings should be closer to the ground? I'll have to think and look at that some more...too hard for me to comment on that one right now. Thank you for the help!

The top of the sidepod looks shorter on your car. Also the angle of the air inlet on the sidepod looks more angled on the Target car. My only other observation was what was already addressed regarding the nose. It's looking good though.

Yeah, I wasn't sure on that one either, it depends on what picture I'm looking at and the angle of view, also which car because the paint job can give the illusion of it curving. Although I am pretty sure that it curves between the windshield and tip, right where the tires are. I've attached a pic that shows that curve more clearly. Attachments:

RE: I guess I don't know what you mean -> Yeah, I have that problem most time I open my mouth its a little hard to explain ... let me try again in the area of the cockpit opening, viewed from the side, looking at the Target car. If you follow the curve of the body work from front of the opening to the back where the head rest is. The curve of the line looks to be a concave arc (or a straighter line) as it bends up towards the drivers head rest. On the model, this looks more rounded (convex arc). It may be different on different cars, or viewing angle. Rusty

I did some things to it last night - I'll take some pics today or tomorrow and see what you guys think - I think I'm heading in the right direction now.

I got some of the mold boxes ready for some of the parts! I've been getting close on being more happy with the body - it sure is time consuming when you when it comes to filling and sanding.....sometimes I feel like a lost person in the desert sometimes, going round and round ending up back to were I originally was.

I started on the rear wing and bumpers - nothing really that wonderful to look at right now but just though I would go ahead and show the hard core reality of scratch building. Getting these angles and radius right is something else. The rear wing has some crazy shape! I used balsa wood for the bumpers. Unfortunately its hard to see the shape of the rear wing from these pics I took.

Would a 3D model you could rotate around at all angles help you?
