We needed a jack stand, so we made four today in glass filled nylon with adjustable threads, so we can rest the wheels. :-) Attachments:

Very impressive! Were those dry-transfers done for the black markings?

Very impressive! Were those dry-transfers done for the black markings? Yep the Dry-rubs were used for the Number "3", the wording in black and red on both sides and the gauge faces.

Your build is awesome. Just curious and you may have answered it at some point but are you doing this to show the capability of 3d printing or did someone commission this build. Also, why this car and not some other car or Indy winner for that matter. And so you know, don't be surprised if we start pestering for you to do models for us. Thanks, Mike

Also, why this car and not some other car or Indy winner for that matter. And so you know, don't be surprised if we start pestering for you to do models for us. Thanks, Mike Interesting question.... First and foremost, I am a huge car fanatic (of all kinds) and have been building model cars and sketching them since I was old enough to walk. We at Cideas (which I founded in '98) have been building prototypes using 3d printing for over 15 years, unfortunately we cannot show models of current projects due to Non-Disclosure agreements. We have to be creative for trade shows. A few years ago I hooked up with another huge car guy named William Gould, he draws them in CAD for fun... One thing led to another and I started building models of his designs for marketing purposes. He has a few variations of the Miller, but this one struck me due to its frame being polished. We built this model using the four major 3D Printing processes in order to highlight them, but we took it to the next level by showing our finishing skills as well. So in short, yes, it is a marketing tool which highlights Cideas' capabilities using 3D printing. Most companies like us, would never invest in such an expensive model, but frankly I am so glad I did... I find myself staring at it for hours. I absolutely would love to work with you guys... Maybe we can provide some cool group buys for you all!!! Best, Mike

I haven't put a price on it yet, simply because I would probably have put a stop to it LOL!!! Glad you enjoyed it though :-)

O-M-G....
Humbled, speechless, but I can totally appreciate the labor, quality, and the results. WOW!
And now, you have to tell us the motivation or story behind the project.... please.
Just curious, how much money did it cost (total including the drawing/CAD work, plating, labor, everything),... just curious?
Thanks for sharing!!!

WOW!
Count me among your very interested fans. I've used a couple of 3D printing houses at work so I have some understanding of how the process works.
The Miller 91 FWD is an excellent and significant choice for an advanced technology demonstration.

First of all, the idea that this is an expensive model comes down to "I'll be the judge of that".
Second, printing costs are going to be reduced by the month.
Third, why not 1/25th scale?

First, I find it incredibly difficult to use the new format. Just blindingly stupid.
That said, why do a 2/5 scale model? Why not a scale that you can actually sell?

It appears as if the differential has some kind of offset, as if the rear wheels are not connected directly to the rear axle. What is this? pbh

I'm sure a lot of guys would love this in 1/25 scale but for showing off your company at trade shows and as office decoration, no one is going to miss a 2/5 scale racecar!! I hope it shows off your company well!

The Miller 91 FWD is an excellent and significant choice for an advanced technology demonstration. Thank you!!! It was a lot more challenging than it looks, but turned out very nicely! A few years back we built a P38 Lightning with a 5 foot wingspan for the very same reasons :-)

Just got back from the show tonight and aside for one minor incident which did very little harm (only required some 2 part epoxy). It was truly a huge success. Guys in our industry, which are familiar with building models, were blown away!!!! Here's our booth... Attachments:

Holy Hop-Toads! This is one amazing project. Approximately how much will the finished "model" weigh? Patrick Approximately 20 to 25 lbs. Lighter than she looks :-)

Third, why not 1/25th scale? pbh Well she was expensive, and I haven't tallied the whole bill yet. But to at least give you a taste... The Nickel Plating for the frame, transmission and shifters was quoted to me for $5,500.00, I negotiated a 50% discount for marketing purposes.... As far as your understanding of 3D Printing costs, I can assure you, they will be the same next month :-)

While everyone is at it, let me state clearly that there is also interest in 1/18th scale. There are an equal number of modelers here who prefer 1/18th, so please don't forget us in your future plans!!

Outstanding is an understatement, but apt I think.
If I'm not wrong [always a possability] reproducing any scale once the digital modeling is done is simply a matter of directing the machine to reduce the input by a scale factor, and perhaps adjust the resolution. The printing time and materials are where the costs are. I, in no way, minimize the extinsive time involved in the original digital modeling. So I would vote for a 1/18 scale to go with my other Indy diecasts.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to enjoy your build and Pride & Joy, Roadtrip!
