What a terrific race! My daughter and I sat across from the scoring pylon in the Paddock A Stand and they were great seats. We had a nice view of the RHR, Hinchcliffe, Munoz and Allmendinger pits. I'm sure I'm leaving some others out. I like the passing but I'm not so sure too much was a good thing. It almost looked like NASCAR with the drafting and there wasn't much chance of anybody dominating for any amount of laps. On the other hand the racing was close and all you had to do was wait a few laps and your favorite driver would probably lead or be close to the lead eventually. Pit stops were flawless. Nobody among the leaders had any issues in the pits. And really, very few positions seemed to be impacted by pit stops! Weather wasn't a factor either. I got to my seats around 9:45 and it was so cold I was having nightmares about 1992. By the 1/4 point in the race it was quite comfortable. And Tony Kanaan? What can I say? He is a very deserving winner. If my favorite (Marco) couldn't win, I was very happy to see TK finally get his first. I'm sure there's more but I'm half asleep and watching hockey. I can't to hear your thoughts.

I thought it was a great race but sure wish the guys could have fought it out. Dario screwed us and made the finish anti-climatic. I am sure he didn't do it on purpose but man. I bet that would have been a finish for the ages.
Congrats to TK though. He was up front all day so well deserved.

the passing every other lap for the lead might have been cool if the TV and Track announcers didn't make it seem like i was watching a nascar race... My girlfriend and I sat Paddock 29 KK 19 & 20. In the shade- we were in front of Conor Daly's Pit Stall..

I just got home from the race, so I have not watched it yet. It was a sprint from the start. Without those last 2 cautions, the finish would possibly have been one for the ages. The leader is almost always a sitting duck on restarts. Take Care Craig

I know the last caution was a (expletive deleted), but when there is a caution within the last 10 laps you know the restarts will breed more cautions. TK was in the position to benefit. Thought it was a very enjoyable race. Action all day long in the third turn! Hadn't seen that many passes for the lead since the Michigan 500 days of CART.
Had to laugh in the beginning of the NASCRAP marathon when the boys questioned the end of our race as the FOX cable came tumbling down onto the track for a red flag!

Got home from the race. My seats were across from TK's pits and grid position, and in the shade. It was a great show where we were with lots of passing. Lots of cheering for Kanaan, certainly louder than the engines towards the end. Gotta love it! I skipped a kart race up in South Bend, because there's nowhere else I'd rather be on Memorial Day weekend.
Great rendition of God Bless America by the way!

I liked all the new track records today and plus seeing TK finally getting one was nice as well!
1 -- It's the first time car No. 11 won the Indianapolis 500.
68 -- Race-record lead changes, breaking 34 in 2012.
14 -- Race-record different lap leaders -- a third of the field -- breaking 12 in 1993.
27 -- Race-record cars running at the finish, breaking 26 in 1911.
133 -- Consecutive green flag laps (from Lap 61 through Lap 193), the longest green flag period in Indianapolis 500 history since caution flag laps were recorded beginning in 1976.
21 -- Caution flag laps, the fewest in an Indianapolis 500 that went the full distance since caution flag laps were recorded beginning in 1976. The 1976 race also had just 21 caution-flag laps, but that race ended after 102 laps because if rain.
187.433 -- Average speed in miles per hour, a race record. Arie Luyendyk held the record of 185.981 mph since 1990. It was only the fourth time the race record has been broken.
62 -- Temperature in Fahrenheit at the green flag, tying the 1930 race for the third-coldest in the race's history.

I'll take a Kanaan win under caution over a green win by Munoz any day. The ending just emphasizes the unpredictability of the race and the importance of actually leading in the closing laps. The 133 consecutive caution-free laps were unreal, and the fact that the field stayed tightly bunched under green for over 300 miles is mind boggling! Between the 4-wide Indy Lights finish and the race yesterday, this ranks as one of the greatest weekends in Motorsports History - this was the stuff of legends. This is why we watch racing.

I thoroughly enjoyed that race, and in the back of my mind as there were 3-5 laps left, I thought, man this race was run pretty quick, also wondered if the 1990 race record would be broken, and it finally was, 20 years after the track was first run in this configuration. Such a great race, really happy for TK, that guy deserved it, Munoz almost emulated Montoya's race of 2000, watching on TV, that Lindsay Czarniak was rather annoying in the pre-race show, Why does ABC continue to snub Paul Page for Indy ? The nod to Carl Fisher was quite nice though, again another year without an Andretti win, maybe next year, 20 years after Mario's last 500? hmmmm

Another little interesting fact is all 3 cars that started in the last row ended with the number 1,...41,91,and 81 and all three cars that started in the front row started with the number 2.

Had to laugh in the beginning of the NASCRAP marathon when the boys questioned the end of our race as the FOX cable came tumbling down onto the track for a red flag! Agreed! Don't talk crap about other sports its just not cool! The 500 was great love that Kanaan finally got his win! But since again the coverage was horrible! We don't know what happened to Newgarden and Power why did they finish so badly? Power looked like he had a great car. Then after the race they didn't interview any of the other drivers!!! 30 minutes of F+%*#+%- commercials! I was so upset about that. I want to hear from other drivers about how their race went. They need to find a way out of their ABC contract or have the NBC production crew do the race. Ok I'm done ranting YAY Kanaan

I'll take a Kanaan win under caution over a green win by Munoz any day. I agree, when it comes to the responsibility after the win, I dont picture Munoz doing that good on Good Morning America or Kelly & Michael....at least when Tony goes on all the shows this week, people will think..... Hey! is that Vin Diesel's brother! For the heath of the sports (which is very touchy these days, still.) A Tony Kanaan win is good for the sport.. An unknown rookie that can barely speak English winning, would not be....that's just the reality of it all.

Lindsay Czarniak was rather annoying in the pre-race show, Why does ABC continue to snub Paul Page for Indy ? She was a HELL better than Bret Musbugers who is a (expletive deleted)!! He ruin college football. Paul Page went did CART Racing on NBC that is why ABC will not hire him again.............Sad really. Pray Fox never get to broadcast.....Fox cause a Red Flag the NASCAR race. Russ

From what I saw of the tv coverage, it wasn't that bad. You have to realize that the race flew by at an astonishing rate, and the action was non-stop. There was no time to worry about what happened to certain drivers. There was no time to get in all the commercials that were scheduled- thus they had to cram them in post-race. The radio broadcast will. Always be better because they don't have a video feed to follow and they have reporters everywhere around the track monitoring everything. It is not possible to do that with tv.

One more race record: Ana was the first driver to receive a marriage proposal during per-race festivities ( she deferred until after the race)

I had to work on race day and went to my car at lunch to get a little race info. I got a 5 minute infomercial with some doctor that invented the temporal lobe thermometer, followed by almost 5 more minutes of commercials, one of which was for the same product the good doctor was crowing about. When the race coverage finally continued they were in the middle of pit stops and the order was getting shuffled. Being an old timer I still miss Sid Collins, Howdy Bell and that bunch. If I never here Paul Page again anywhere it wouldn't bother me at all.

I thoroughly enjoyed having Eddie Cheever as one of the TV commentators, he looked great, like a past 500 champion should. and had a presence that added a lot to the coverage. Unlike some in the past... Chris

One more race record: Ana was the first driver to receive a marriage proposal during per-race festivities ( she deferred until after the race) I thought that's what I saw!! Lucky dude. Bia is a cutie. Anyway, I always listen to the radio broadcast and that team just does excellent work. I love hearing the different voices as the cars make their way to the four turns. How great is it that all four of the former AGR team, Dario, Dan, Bryan and TK have been involved in the lat four Indy wins? There's a certain symmetry to that ever since Wheldon died.

Too many interviews of alleged shakers and movers and not enough coverage. They were skimpy on the run downs and pit calls IMO. Mr. King could hang it up anytime and I wouldn't mind. Jenkins or Page were great on the IMS network IMO. Kevin Lee deserves his due on either media outlets. His show on 1070thefan every week is must listening. Haven't watched the replay yet, but how could anybody be surprised that the ABC coverage was suspect? When was the last race that they did cover well? NBC would fantastic do things for IndyCar. Hope it happens sooner than later.

I had a feeling about this year. The last few days before the race, I felt like this year could be something really special. I was almost overflowing with excitement!! I think it lived up to my hope that it would be a special weekend - like Michael said, this is why I love racing. I loved the action but would prefer the best car/driver winning the race instead of the drafter who got the right slipstream at the right time. This felt more like a competition, if you get my drift. I would prefer the rules package to be tweaked to allow for more separation of cars - more power, less d/f, etc. Liked seeing TK win, even though I don't really root for the guy. TK is going to go down as a great driver - due to his slow start in ChampCars it took me a long time to realize how good he was once he got hooked up with Andretti Green in IndyCar. Thought Dario bringing out the last caution was very curious but after seeing Dario's in car, it seems legit... it did have me wondering. Quite the Penske dryspell.... maybe next year. I too was disappointed in the lack of post race interviews. I thought with the race going so fast that we might get some more airtime for interviews and such. Jordan

Thought it was pretty classy of TK to stop in turn four to shake hands with the Homaltro guys. Almost thought he was going to jump for the fence! Well deserved win.

Since they won '94 and '01, even the '95 DNQ doesn't mess up that stat. I figured that sequence out around '04-'05, so, I was relieved when Sam and Helio pulled out their last wins after a two year drought. I always will wonder what 2012 would have looked like if they hadn't given single turbo cars a favorable rule change heading into May. Jordan

What really gets me is how well Justin Wilson did with a 5th place finish running for Dale Coyne while the Target boys were not even in the picture. They can't blame it all the Honda motor.

Turns out the proposal was a prank for Brazilian TV. I guess the crowd at IMS got punked Wilson... where did he come from? He was turning laps over 226mph at the end! Fastest lap of the race for him! He was nowhere all day. Glad to see my Denver neighbor score a top 5!

I find this interesting, in the 2013 Indy 500, none of the drivers competing in the race competed in the 1993 Indy 500, 3 drivers who competed in the 1993 "500" also competed in the 1973 "500", Mario, Big Al and Gary Bettenhausen.
It looks like for the forseeable future we will have an Andretti racing at Indy, but why no Unsers ? what ever happened to 'mini' Al, Al Unser Jr's kid?
