The Heartbreaking story of the 1978 Winner

Looking for a 1978 LOLA body!

I want to make another 1978 Winner..........yes....thats right another one.

Let me tell you a story......

Once upon a time there was a young little kid that got a 78 Lola resin body off of ebay, he was a really big fan of the Chaparral racing team and wanted to build Al Unser's 1978 Winner, so he bought a set of indycals and started build it.






Then one day the little kid had this crazy idea of changing his nice 78 winner into a 79 Pennzoil Lola! With a big high down-force rear wing!



So he striped his poor little Lola's 78 colors off then sprayed the all mighty Texas Gold onto the Lola!



Then added all the old stuff back on.



And then he posted the finished 79 Lola on the forum.

And everyone wondered, why?.....why take a great winner and turn it into a loosing car?

I'm still wonder myself, but instead of striping the Texas Gold off and getting my 78 Winner back, I just thought I would ask if anyone would be willing to sell their ready to build 78 Lola? ;D

Hey Calvin, how are you going to do the engine on this thing? Seems like there was quite a conversation a while back about a bizarre turbo mounting on this beast.

Good question! I'll most likely mount the PC-6 engine in the same way but I'll have to think a little more on a correct turbo layout.....I'll make sure I hit on that point when I do a WIP on this.

I'm the guy that figured out the turbo placement of the T500. I've had a copy of this car on my work bench for about 2 years now. Can't seem to find time to finish it, but I have done a lot of research. If you need any info/help let me know.

One thing I was never able to find is a picture of the car with the engine/cockpit cover off so my copy of the car is, at best, a guess of what lies beneath. From what I can tell, the car that is in the Indy Museum is not restored to the configuration that won the race.

I have yet to start on the 1978 Winner but I'm pretty sure on the race day car the turbo was located at a strange angle on the left side.
