Has anyone heard anything about Greenlight not putting out any 2009 cars? I heard a rumor saying they weren't but it didn't say who if anyone was picking up the diecasts cars. TIA

The speedway has signed a deal with Mattel to do current 1/18 indycars.

What's up with Greenlight? Did they go under or just decide that they weren't moving enough IRL stuff? Just curious.

It wasn't a Greenlight decision.

Greenlight has some Grand Am cars coming out. I've only seen them in 1/64th scale though.

I gather Greenlight had a falling out with IRL or vice/versa?

Sounds like one of Tony George's "My way or the highway" deals.

It's all about $$$$$ Mattel probably gave the Speedway a guarantee and they have distribution into Walmart Target etc.
The thing is Indy does not sell in mass market like NASCAR so in a year or two these models will be on clearance so that is good news for us. No one has ever had success with mass market Indy Models just look at Revell, AMTetc. none of their Indy efforts were a financial success. Indy models only work in specialty markets like Greenlight and Carousel One are in.
I feel for Kevin Davey who runs Greenlight, his own have turned on him as he was a Speedway employee for many years before starting Greenlight.
Like I say the 500 is no longer a race.. it's a marketing event.

Your comment on the 500 being a marketing event is spot on. So is every other race in that series and NA$CAR. Major sports are conducted to give us a little entertainment (diversion) while the corporations try to get into our pockets.
