Tamiya always has advertising at Long Beach, but I agree, this win might give them some impetus to do a DW12. If he wins Indy, count on it.

Thats great for Sato, we know he's not afraid to put it out there so will be interesting to see what Indy brings. Bring it on Tamiya.

Loved the telecast. I also saw those Tamiya signs around the circuit. Best moment was when somebody on the telecast---Townsend??--- suggested strongly that the rear wheel covers do nothing. Totally agree. They make the cars ugly and slow IMO. Powers rear looked much improved after the right rear was sawzawed off!

I wish Tamiya would do the DW12 in 1/25 but I think we all know they love 1/20 too much. Another thing is Sato won in a Honda - in Tamiya's eyes the only thing better would be him winning Indy or Japan based race. Still Long Beach is a marque race with an F1 heritage. Wonder what an DW12 kit would cost these days. Not $25 anymore I'm sad to say.
Race seemed alright. I watched or listened to a fair amount on my Verizon phone. I will try to catch the full broadcast on YouTube this week once it gets posted.
What's up with Penske and Will Power?? Time to turn the season around boys!!

It's been almost 20 years (I wanna say the tamiya T93 lola was released in early '94 if memory serves) So timing seems right for Tamiya to delve back into making a 1/20th scale Indy Car, no way they would do one in 1/25th, as much as I'd like to see that.

I think if Sato and Honda were to win the Indy 500, that would increase the chances.

I need to give credit to the Foyt team. Larry was never much of a wheel-man and I really never expected the team to win again. They made it look like it wasn't a fluke either. Congrats.
I enjoyed pulling out a part box and working on some sub-assemblies while listening to the race. With everyone else in the house asleep, it made for good bench time even if I had to steal a lap desk from my 1 year old to be my bench LOL

They did have advertising around the circuit... Missed my first LBGP in many years. All funds going toward a trip to the 500 this year! Last year Tamiya had a huge display in the convention center and I got a '78 Lotus 79 for 36 bucks! Hopefully the bosses were impressed and excited by Taku winning. Most of the drivers from Japan have been back markers ("...king Hiro!") but Taku is plenty fast. Winning for AJ - what a story. I will be wearing an ABC #14 hat at Indy! MJ |
