Your work is exquisite. The grill looks very nice and the color is just right. I think I read you intend to cut a portion out of the steering wheel. There is discussion of this issue in my build, referenced below, with the consensus being that the wheel was intact. Hope this helps. mb2501.proboards.com/thread/10339/miller-rear-drive-doucette-kit

Dan I never saw this thread but wished I had. It has a bunch of awesome tips and ideas to use. What a fantastic job you did. I have already cut the wheel but could replace it. I really like the wire over the tub idea I would have given that a try. I am pleased with the color but the decals were a choice I struggled back and forth with. I had three sets with the Etzel kit and not sure how a acquired them two sets were dark blue with red outline. One off those sets had a yellowed background so I discounted it right off. The set I used first looked great after the first two numbers so I Microset them and moved to the front. After setting that one the film started darkening and all three had dark outlines. I removed them but the dark squares remained. So I wet sanded those and shot it gold again. Thankfully the stains did not bleed. Anyways I moved to the Etzel kit decals even tho I knew it had been discussed they were dark. I am pleased with the outcome. Thanks for the help and comments.

Kevin: From Indycals website… “Although it was his first start at Indy, Meyer is not considered a rookie winner as he drove 41 laps in releif of Wilbur Shaw in 1927. Nevertheless, 1928 was the third consecutive year that a first year starter won the 500 - the only time in history that has happened, (the only other time first year starter won in consecutive years was 2000 and 2001). Driving for car owner Alden Sampson, Meyer took the lead with 19 laps left to take what would be his first of three Indianapolis 500 wins. This was also the first year the winner got to take home the pace car. This car was previously owned by Alfred Champion - founder of AC Delco and Champion Spark Plug. Prior to 1928 the car was being used to test an experimental new fuel pump for AC Delco. The 'blue and red' numbers were representative of the AC Delco company colors. When Champion died in October 1927, the car was sold to Alden Sampson and put into service for the 1928 Indianapolis 500.” So I guess it was gold all along? Tim May we clarify this? This beautiful model represents Louie Meyer's 1928 winner, his first win. Yes, Meyer was the first to win the pace car, but as I recall, the 1936 race was the first time the winner took home the pace car, as well as the first time the Borg-Warner trophy was presented at the winner's circle. The 1936 race was also the year tat milk became the official drink at Indy's winner circle. Frank

Just a stunner. I’ve always loved this car. Had the pleasure of watching it fire off and run some laps at IRP this past summer at the miller meet. They’ll be back again in Indy this year so hopefully I can see some more cool stuff. Again, great work!

I hope to try to make it back during one of those events it gets a little tougher as time goes on.

I’m not so sure about the Museum quality but I do appreciate it especially from someone that loves the vintage stuff. And besides the Museum would probably go thru three Curators during my build time. But I can now say I finished a WIP. Thanks everyone.
