In all fairness to Parnelli, that car was going to blow up even if Juan's grandma was driving it. The car didn't want to get going and had to be push started, and supposedly it was dropping oil all morning (it took to the track three times on raceday morning 2011 - once with other cars from the first 500, once with the decades winning cars, and finally to lead the parade laps). This was taken at the start of it's first outing.

Thanks for sharing the article. I found it a most interesting read. While the IMS Museum is the world's greatest repository of historic race cars, I do think their efforts would be enhanced with more attention and more money. I have heard they get little actual support from IMS which may account in part for their dependence on donations of cars rather than purchases. It is important to realize that the goal is that all cars in the museum can run with the exception of the Vukovich's Fuel Injection Special which was donated by Lindsey Hopkins without a crankshaft and with the stipulation that it would never be run again. I love the Museum and just wish it could be more. Jim

I would have loved to see/hear the Wasp run. Thanks Michael for showing us the car in daylight...ouch, poor PJ!

I found it pretty fascinating, too, which is why I was sure you guys would like it, also! I'm sure the ol' girl was do for an overhaul. Sad to see the damage it took on race day 2011 and then again from the welding damage.

I would have loved to see/hear the Wasp run. Thanks Michael for showing us the car in daylight...ouch, poor PJ! Patrick That was the one time I wished the Wasp was a two-seater. Ray Harroun's son was in attendance and it would have been awesome if he could have ridden around the track with Parnelli.

Can't they 3-D scan it and CNC an exact copy of it on a multi-axis machining center? It looks to me like the repairs are going to be pretty obvious and ugly.
