Hi all, Today's Dallas Morning News had a NASCAR piece in which they stated that Danica was one of thirteen drivers to lead a lap in both the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500. Besides Danica, the easy ones are Foyt and Andretti and Tony Stewart. I would guess the list would include Parnelli Jones and possibly Johnny Rutherford, Robby Gordon, JP Montoya and Sam Hornish. Does anyone know who the others were?
Best, Gary

I heard that there is only one driver who was mainly a NASCAR driver on the list. Bobby Allison is credited for leading 1 lap at indy so it must be him. I was able to find a list of indy lap leaders but have not had any luck finding Daytona lap leaders. Allmendinger has never raced in the Indy 500.

Did Cale Yarborough ever lead a lap at Indy? Cale did not. Tim Richmond did lead 1 lap at Indy, but did he ever lead a lap at Daytona? I don't think he did.

The 13 are: AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, Tony Stewart, Juan Montoya, Robby Gordon, Johnny Rutherford, Tim Richmond, Bobby Allison, Jim Hurtubise, John Andretti, Danica, Al Unser led one lap in the 1968 Daytona 500 driving for Cotton Owens (finished 4th), & Uncle Bobby led one lap of the 1969 Daytona 500 driving for Smokey Yunick.
Parnelli, Gurney, & Sam Hornish have never led the Daytona 500. Goldsmith and Bobby Johns never led at Indy.

I look forward to Allmendinger and Hornish adding themselves to that list. Sam just needs to lead at Daytona. Has Allemendinger led at the Daytona 500? He should have a good chance of leading Indy this May.
