Has anyone attempted/started/considered/researched/contemplated/planned or otherwise thought about converting a Tamiya 1/20 M23 to an M26? Does anyone have a good pic of the front suspension of the M26? I have the MTR Speed decals to do 9 different M23's but they also include a set to do Bruno "Jack O'Malley's" M26. Is this even a remote possibility? Any help is much appreciated!

Is this even a remote possibility? The airbox and rear wing look to be about the same Formula 1 In Camera 1970-79 Volume 2 has an interesting photo on page 212 - James Hunt in a blue and gold Lowenbrau liveried M26 at Montreal in 1978.

They also ran the same paint scheme at Watkins Glen in 1978

I found some on-line pics of the M26, airbox is slightly lower and leaner in the rear, front is raked back at more of an angle but I think the kit airbox could be modified, wing looks the same, rear suspension looks the same, front suspension looks similar, higher and narrower roll bar, and a lot of body work, mostly flat sheet styrene. Fabricate a more upright cockpit surround and put a Wolf oil cooler in the front and I think you'd have it pretty much whipped. I think I'll build an OOB M23 for pratice and then give the M26 a shot. Chris, your pics are definitely NOT an M26, so M28 sounds right.

It didn't even make it through the season. Its was replaced by the M29 by mid season. Here are some pics of the M26 tinyurl.com/bggbbkzConverting a M23 into a M26 looks like a lot of body work. Hi Herk56, check out at www.gurneyflap.com, you'll se the M26 with good detail photos, and Chris, that is the M28, totally different , one of worst Mclaren that raced. The chassis of both cars (M23 and M26) are diferent, maybe the rear suspension are the same. If you find some cheap M23 Tamiya kits, and with some styrene sheets and puty, you can do this transformation. Good lucky, good job. Cheers Alex

Ok Chris . I saw the M28 in the brazilian GP at interlagos (in the old Interlagos racetrack), ugly but very interessant , and is one of my scratchbuild project (in the future...) Cheers. Alex
