Hi Everyone.....
Just a bit of a rant here, for the time begin. I am truly tired of other modelers, or as I call them, "Model Wienie's" telling another builder they can't do that!...or that's the wrong car to do that car....all I can say to that is BULL FEATHERS!!!!!
When I started to do the 1940 Maserati 8CLT, I was told by many that I couldn't do that from an old Merit Alfetta kit, well, if you want it badly enough and have a great set of drawings to guide you, and enough putty, you can do anything.
Both Lance Sellers and Bill Jorgensen have shown that, time and again. DrDave has just started to prove that himself. There are enough talented men in here to do anything they want to do....JUST GO FOR IT!!!!!!!! Remember, if you want it bad enough, you'll try to do it!
So to all the model winnies.....JAM IT!
Best to you
Russ

I agree!
For most of us modeling is a hobby, not a vocation. We all want to make the best product possible. However, time money, skills, reference material, all come into play.
Nothing worse than spending dozens of hours on a project and then have it ripped apart by someone who hasen't even tried to do one!
This forum is great! try visiting some of the F1 forums or model A/C forums for a truely humbeling experience.

Great points Russ and Dave! Yes, this is a hobby. It's supposed to be for relaxation. Being able to show your work to fellow builders and not have to travel to a show or club meeting is a tremendous bonus for me. And you are correct, nothing is impossible! The most important thing is, as long as YOU are satisfied with results, don't pay attention to the naysayers. Ok, back to the bench for me!

No rivet counters here. We will give you the best information we have here and let you build it the way you want/can!

I'm pretty thick skinned and typically model wienies do not annoy me. They are often the type that have gathered every miniscule piece of reference and have never built a kit. But model weinies do have thier place as well, I have found that over the years I have become a better model in some part to model wienies and the thier anality. Don't know who coined the phrase but '...the beauty is the details...' So are the modelers who actually follow through with a project putting in all the detail a model weinie would(if he actually built) known as modeling geeks?

Jordan One of the things I like best about this forum is that most of us are somewhat self-deprecating and tend to downplay the quality of our works. That really relaxed me when I started looking at how I wanted my cars to turn out. I have more fun now than I ever did when nobody saw my builds. And I'd say everyone here is pretty appreciative of the time and effort that we put into our works. Jordan has seen some of my work and I hope he has had as good a laugh at some of them as I have. I like accuracy too, but I'm not obsessed by it. I play hockey, golf and build models as hobbies because they are all fun things to do. It's a good thing I don't need to make a living from doing them.

Okay.....the story goes.....
My older brothers was a High Ranking Officer in the United States Air Force at one time, and go t me and a friend press passes when they honored General Chuck Yeager at Edwards Air Force Base,. Yeager has always been a hero of mine, so my brother thought it would be nice if I met the General.
I was out at Edwards, walking around for it was also the bases anniversary and o-pen house. They had every aircraft the USAF was flying at the time. The SR-71, the F-15 Strike Eagle...and one of my favorites, the A-10 Warthog. A beast of an aircraft! As my friend and I were walking by the A-10, which had just landed and was leaking fluid of every kind, the pilot was talking to a family and these two "guys" walked up and one announced, "They (meaning the USAF) don't paint them like that when they are operational." To which the pilot looked at the guy like, "WHAT THE F***!!!!!" I stepped over and said to the pilot, "let me handle this....." I looked at the guy and nodded while asking, "You build models, don't you?" To which he replied he did......Damn Model Wienie!!!!!!!!!!!!! only a model wienie would argue with an Air Force Pilot that his plane was not "operational" after he flew into a base!
This is what I mean by model wienie's If you want to build it, BUILD IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make yourself happy and tell the rest to jam it! I have yet to see, anyone's work here that is sub-par. Everyone does nice work, keep at it! If there are some that are to critical, tell them to jam it as well.....Once ask how I compare myself to other modelers. I said, "By height"
Best to you all

Hi Russ, This hobby can be so much for so many and I just don't pay any attention to the guys who are *sexual intellects*. As an aside, I had never tried to convert the nose of the AMT Watson to the early nose (1961 Simoniz!) but it is a car I HAD to do! It just takes patience, time, and above all, DESIRE to create the models we truly want.. Mongo

I do love when the wienies get what's coming to them though Kinda OT but does involve open wheel cars and aircrafts. I used to date a woman who managed a Blockbuster and was a movie nerd. I had just gone to see "Driven" (ugh!) and she asked what I tought about it and I told her what a steaming pile it was and she was curious about what was wrong with it. I told her for one show cars aren't fueled up ready to go and NO open wheel car has an on board starter. I told her I was very surprised that CART signed off on a scene having a wheel and tire going into the crowd. Now flash forward a little bit. She used to have an older gentleman come into her store to rent movies all the time so she asked him what he thought of the movie Pearl Harbor. He said he ddn't care for it because of all the inaccuracies. She said she told him that he sounded like her boyfriend (me) who always finds things wrong with movies and just what makes him an expert about Pearl Harbor. She told me that he started to tear up and said he was there on December 7th and he left the store. We broke up not to long after that

Hey Schu.......
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's funny when "Model Wienie's" get theres, even in a video store. I have been witness to many encounters like the one your ex-lady had with vets and former race car drivers. Some smart a** will say something like, "What do you know?" and end up hurting someones' feelings. Nothing is worse than spending weeks and months researching a project, and then when you build it some jerk that doesn't build trashes it. I never compare my work with other builders because of that.....AS Bob Clidinst says, "Just do it, that's the only trophy you need: the finished model."
Best to you
Russ
