I don't think there's enough capsules to do such a chess set (and I won't include the Shuttle - I am NOT a fan of the shuttle program)

Man, those look great! Time to pull out the stuff I've been holding on to and start selling, so I can start buying. The engine/suspension combo is amazing. Really impressed with the work, Michael.
Time to stock up on Brilliant Orange. Seem to be more McLarens in my future!

3D Modeling has gone mainstream! Last night on Big Bang Theory Wolowitz and Raj bought a 3D printer for 5K to make dolls of themselves. Wolowitz's wife was not amused. OK, I have no life. MJ

No question, this is really beautiful. Did you mention the unit cost? Is there a sliding scale for bulk purchases? pbh

You could go further and do a Cold War version with CCCP hardware on the black/red side, a Soyuz or three, Sputniks as pawns . . . pbh

What is really great about this is the finish work. Many modelers just paint all the metal the same color. The bits and pieces are all made from different things and acquire their own unique patinas when subjected to heat and track time. This example captures that perfectly. NICE JOB!!

On my way into work today I was listening to NPR. They had a story about 3-D printing. Turns out, someone has tried to make gun parts using this technology. They were trying to make the receiver portion of the gun. Apparently that's the part of a gun that typically has the serial number on it. Officals are worried that if they can pull this off they could flood the market with untraceable guns. I hope these guys don't screw this up for the rest of us (modelers).

Would the '74 version work for the '72 McLaren and '73 Eagle? Nope. You need this: shpws.me/n6vo

Michael, I just got an email from Shapeways about their new premium silver. How would that work for roll bars and some of the suspension parts? I'm sure it would be a lot more expensive, but could the buyer choose the material and therefore how much he/she wanted to spend on a project? It sounds like this silver is a lot smoother and would solve some of the "pebble" issues on small parts.

Michael can expound but I was looking at this yesterday on their site: It is really important to note that we get this amazing finish on the Premium Silver with manual polishing that may result in very fine details being polished away. If your design has sharp corners these will be polished to a smoother, rounder edge. If your design has very fine engraving or embossing, these details may be polished out. As we progress through the trial we will have a better idea exactly what level of detail will succeed and we will update the design rules and guidelines accordingly. Looks it has the same/similar imperfections from printing as the other materials but gets polished so fine details are lost. Since it is very expensive, my impression is that it will be better to get a cheaper material and clean it up by hand to control loss of detail. Also, saw this in the comment section... And just to verify that I did some price comparisons: On a small pendant the price went up from $45 to $59... not too bad, but then another model - two thick rings - went from $218 to $686!! Wow. So I'm paying $468 for some extra polishing.... #4.1 Glenn (Homepage) on 2013-03-05 20:57 (Reply)
Hey Glenn, We are aware that the pricing throws up some fairly large discrepancies that we may address after this trial has ended. #4.1.1 Duann on 2013-03-05 21:42 (Reply) Jordan

This is amazing! I am just blown away with this technology. Thanks Michael, and anyone else involved with this. Thanks for all you do. Now I have to go check my house, to make sure Rod Serling isn't about to jump out and say, Next Step the Twilight Zone.'

Just got my delivery of the '74 Offy today and I have to say it exceeded my expectations for fidelity and fine detail.
And if you think this is the end of this, guess what, the plans are for "printing" body parts, and I'm not talking about models.

I remember reading about that microscopic printing last year. Thought it was cool and I liked their choice of topic ;D. What did you think about the test print of the Buick, Michael?

Jordan It was a success. Now I just need add a turbo intake for the plenum and to deconstruct it for easy mold making and resin casting.
