A couple questions;
who was the very first car/driver combination to ever qualify for the first Indy race?
Has anyone ever made a model of it, and if so what scale?
THANKS!

If you are talking about the first 500 in 1911, starting positions were set by when the entry was received, provided that the car could go at least 75 mph. Lewis Strang was the first entry and started on the pole in a Wisconsin powered Case. I'm sure it was not the fastest car because it had a 284 cu in engine when the max displacement was 600 cu in. So I guess that he would have been the first qualifier. I doubt that anyone has modeled the car, but you never know. Some photos do exist, if you are looking for a project. Contrary to what my kids think, I was not there. Take Care Craig

Easy there, Calvin. I just might have that Valvoline body you want. Besides, its not nice to be mean to old people.

The horseless carriage is just a fad, it will never last. At my age memory is the first to go. A few minutes ago I started downstairs to look for a body somebody wanted, halfway down I forgot what it was, so I grabbed a beer instead.

Thanks everyone. I suppose I could've researched it, but I just love hearing all of this witty banter (smile). It is a neat story and video. I believe I just learned something today, thanks again!
