This has probably been asked before, but does anyone make a conversion for the 1/20 Tamiya McLaren M23? I have 2 of the Tamiya kits, both the 76 Hunt versions, and I would really like to do one as a 74 Yardley version. Decals I can get from Michael, but the conversion is proving a bit harder.
Thanks

There is/was a 1:20 kit produced by Iritani that was a blend of the Tamiya M23 body work with resin high airbox used by Hunt in the early 75 races. This airbox is (visually) identical to the one used on the 74 Yardley M23. If you had this kit you would still need to do some work on the front suspension (switch out the solid, one piece Upper rocker arm to open tube style used on the early M23s). I'm guessing there are other subtle differences as well (probably front/rear wings, ...). Iritani worked for Tamiya of Brazil a long time ago. The story I heard is, when he retired he had a lot of M23 and WR1 rejects that he used as bases for a string of transform kits in the late 1990's. I'm not sure if he's still producing or the availability of these kits. Now that I think about it .... he may have produced a Yardley version of the M23, but I'm not sure about that. MORE.... I Googled Iritani Yardley M23 and got this link www.macsmodeling.com/IRI2012.htm To my knowledge, there is no transkit to do this. Probably has something to do with how rare the Tamiya kits are AND, the number of these that would sell VS the investment in time and money to produce a transkit. Rusty

Looks like if I do it, I'll be doing it the hard way.

WoW Glad I bought that MFH Transkit back when it was $120. I have seen it as high as $500. on ebay... I also got the Tyrrell P34 for the same price and started that one, quite a complicated transkit though... Chris
