This Thread is double WIP with Lazierfan we plan on back dating a Revell Reynard into a 1996 Winner. On mine The red marks show were I'm going mainly focus on modifying. The build will not be 100% accurate to the 95 chassis but IMO it will be about 93.897% of it. I'll go into more detail as this WIP goes on.......

Don't know if you already have a color picked out for this ride, but Krylon short cuts SCS-074 Iris (purple) is a close/ to perfect match
its' less than $4 at Hobby Lobby.

The trim is not yellow but lime green. The wheels are from a company called BART. I do not believe anyone has ever made them in any scale. They resemble BBS but are not BBS.

The trim is not yellow but lime green. I thought it was fluorescent Yellow? Yeah, I didn't know the name but I'm not to sure if I'll worry about trying replicate the BART wheels.

Calvin, I swear you most have broken into my top secret shop and looked around. This is too funny. I just broke mine out last night after sitting for more than a year and started working on it. I plan on going full detail with an engine and front shock assembly. I modified the area around the cockpit, rounded off all of the body lines, removed the roll hoop and moved it forward and spreaded it out to the edge of the tub to look closer to the 95. I had to add plastic strips to the bottom of the roll hope as I lost some of the height do to removing it and spreading it. Next part will be to undertray. I plan on using the BBS wheels painted black as that is how the car finished the race. Attached are a couple of photos if they help. No! I'm not looking around in your secret shop! LOL I'm just currently in a early IRL mood. I knew a long time ago you were going to a full blown 96 Winner. I dont plan on going 'all out' like you are but it'll be interesting to see what both of us come up with. Mine is just going to be a basic curbside. Thanks for sharing the pics of yours!

I started by cutting off the roll bar, so later I can move it forward. Then started grinding and cutting what I didn't need on the body. I also added a bunch of Milliput putty to the underside of the engine cowling and radiator exits I also cut off the shark fin so I could shape that area of the engine cowling - later I'll replace the shark fin with a more accurate looking brass fin. The reason I added putty under the cowling is when I start grinding and sanding down on the outside of the cowling I have something extra to go down to.

Eric, Did you totally cut off the fins on the undertray? Because I have no idea what the underside of what a 95 Reynard should look like.

I did a little bit more work as well on mine...... I did a bunch of grinding a shaping to the engine cover and also started to rework the side pods. I'm test fitting the new brass shark fin and working on the rear wing.

Calvin, You are not the only one that doesn't know...neither do I...so I took some creative liberties and made what I thought it might be like. I did not cut the fins off. I trimed them back even with the body...since I had no miliput I cheated. I took masking tape and wrapped it around the front edge...then mixed up some resin and filled it in...and then sanded it to the shape I wanted...below is what the bottom of my undertray looks like..still need a little sanding after I prime it.

Your solution might be pretty close. This car had a set of "barg boards" (little vertical wings) between the front wheels and the side pods. These would have messed with the aerodynamic flow to the undertray. The turning vanes on the original car may have been removed or, at the very least, cut back to account for these add structures.
That being said, I've tried to imagine the aerodynamics of the undertray as it is in the Revell kits and I can't really get a feel for all those contours and the turning vanes.

Calvin, Your build is helping me alot. I really liked the way you did the rear of the cockpit openning near the roll hope. Mine was much to squared off. I went back and added plastinc to mine and re-did it. I think it looks much better now. Hopefully some primer tomorrow so I can see any other flaws.

Couldn't sleep so figured I would try to finish up making some of the are pieces on the side pods. Need to do a little more finish sanding and then will finally be ready for primer.

I was looking around and realized I stole the BBS wheels from this kit........so I guess I'll use AMT March wheels instead just like what the car started with (?)

Calvin,
I believe I saw a picture during the race when they used the March styled wheels and I know they used the March styled wheels on the other 2 team cars. I think they look much better with the BBS wheels though as the car finished the race with. I don't think they ever ran the BART wheels at all other than for the winner's photos the following day. I will need to look but I also beleive they ran both black and chrome BBS wheels during the race. I am going to try both the chrome and the painted BBS wheels on see which I like better. I am at my in-laws until Monday, when I get home I will look and see if I have an extra set of BBS wheels I can sent you.

According to one of the crew members that was a tire changer they started on Reynard wheels. I was not aware of Reynard wheels existing prior to his telling of the story of the 96 race. They qualified on them and had to start the race with them.

Got primer on the body today. Below are a couple of photo's of the body mocked up next to the standard Reynard kit. Engine cover isn't 100% correct..not sure if I will go back and change it or not??? Biggest changes are in the area of the cockpit area, front of under tray, and the rear of the side pods and aero pieces.
