For some reason this morning I woke up in an early IRL mood - then I looked at my dusty Maistro Crest diecast on my shelf......so here we go! LOL My first 1/18 Diecast conversion. I know if I make it my own if you know what I mean, it will not get dust on it ever again! The Goal is to turn this dust mess into Tony Stewart's First win car from Pikes Peak......it shouldn't be too hard, I see a few things that need to be modified. Look at the nice DUST! 1997 Pikes Peak 200

are those after market belts ? I bought 3-4 of these back in 1998. Shame they never sold these 1/18s with 'Indy' style super speedway wings.

Shame they never sold these 1/18s with 'Indy' style super speedway wings. Yeah, but for my build its perfect since its a high down force/short track build.

Does anyone know of any good early IRL photo websites?

I think you will find that, other than IMS, photos will be few and far between, since the media and most photos were in bed with CART and did not cover IRL extensively. The good news is that IMS had their staff at every race. The bad news is that you must go to IMS to view the photo books.

I can't believe you're willing to defile a Dr. Jack model. Unbelievable... This should be great, Calvin. Can't wait to see it done!

I'm a little confused on what flo orange or red paint to use. Sometimes it looks like flo Orange on the side pods but a lighter flo Orange on the stripes above? Or maybe the side pods are flo red? Heck I dont know?

Art, I was trying to figure out why a Dr Jack car was produced in the first place

Yeah I can see it now. This pic also shows it pretty good. I think I'll go with Tamiya flo Red on the side pods and Pactra flo Orange for the top stripes.

I love your WIPs Calvin, where is the flo yellow from, what brand did you use? The paints I'll be using are.... Pactra Fluorescent Yellow Pactra Fluorescent Orange Tamiya Fluoresncent Red Tamiya Clear Testors Lacquer The thing about using Pactra RC paint is it goes on FLAT but covers very well, so before I apply the Indycals I will need to clear coat the car.

I was very impressed with the pactra dayglo yellow when I did the 68 turbine. So much so that I think I'll try their fluorescent red on the next car I do that requires it - Tamiya is great when it comes out just right, but it is sooo inconsistent. And despite being flat, it was a smooth flat that clearcoated well.

Art, I was trying to figure out why a Dr Jack car was produced in the first place Yeah, how did that happen? Maybe Colgate had something to do with it.

I checked my can of Tamiya Clear and it was only half full IMO not enough to cover a 1/18 car....Since Tamiya doesn't make clear anymore for some DuMb reason? I decided to use a full can of Testors "one coat Lacquer" hopefully its OK to use or the same as Model Master Ultra Clear Lacquer?

The reason Dr Jack's car was made was a push from the league for good PR. A menard car makes me proud!

Calvin, I just saw this post. I wanted to give you a word of warning. Use etching primer! If you don't, chances are your masking tape will pull your paint right off down to the metal when you remove it. Then you will have to strip the body again right after you get done crying.
Can't wait to see it!
