This is my latest completion, a Lemon Tree Inn Monte Carlo as driven by Fred Lorenzen in 1972. Lorenzen came back from retirement in 1970 and ran select races. He had some good finishes and good runs, but was unable to recapture the magic of his early career. He ran the Monte Carlo four times, a fourth at the Southern 500 being the best finish with the Monte. Lorenzen's last race was the '72 Old Dominion 500 where he hand-grenaded an engine and finished 27th. You can see Lorenzen's last run in Martinsville footage in "The Last American Hero." The kit is a Model King Monte Carlo with a Monogram Thunderbird chassis. The wheels and tires are PPP, decals by ACE (super decals). The body is painted Tamiya Chrome Yellow a gloss black hood that is dull-coated. My photos kind of wash out the orange on the numbers and other orange on the yellow portions of the car, sorry about that! A big thanks to Tom Mooty for tips on how to convert the Monogram chassis for a Monte Carlo and for the interior colors. Ancient Modeler recommended Chrome Yellow a few years ago. I had planned to do this for ages, I was reluctant over the chassis conversion, I wanted this one to be special as it is a pretty, pretty car. All in all, I am quite satisfied with the final product. Thanks for looking.
