I have been wanting to finish off a glue blomb from many years ago. I think i was about 15 when this was started and i was not happy with the white that had been sprayed. So this is how it looked after a caustic soda bath. I was originally going to do it as the Amoco 1988 car but decided to go with the Dan Hanna car wash version from 87. After a good clean i then sprayed with Tamiya primer which made the whole thing look nice and neat again. And this is how it is now with the Tamiya Italian red TS8 followed by decals done by Michael from Indycals.

I know this may be unpopular, but I was never a Mario fan. can't put my finger on it but from the beginning, I just never cared for him. later in his career he said some things, I'm sure that were in the heat of the moment, that re-affirmed my dislike for him. it even carried over to Michael for a number of years.
but oddly when Michael dumped that beeeatch of a wife Sandi, IMO his attitude changed and seemed more personable and with less entitlement. (funny how getting a divorce will take a load off your back!!!) now he's one of my favorite car owners, but his dad? still not warming up to him.......sorry.
but hey, it's a great looking build you have going! lol

Man, he had everybody covered in that car at Indy in 1987, until the thing quit on him. Mario has mellowed a bit and is more appreciative of the fans now than before. Like him or not, the guy has never been very personable and I'm OK with that. His talent and achievements in a racing car and unassailable. Besides that, Stu likes him so that's good enough for me. LOL!! I've got your back Stu!!

Thanks Steve! Not to highjack this thread but Mario has always been my favorite. As a kid my 1st recollection of racing was the 69 Indy 500. I was at my Uncle's a saw a magazine showing his winning car. I don't think I read the article but looked at the pictures and fell in love with the car. Fast forward to my 1st Indy 500 which was 1987. Mario was killing everyone and just cruising. I about cried when his car broke but it sure made for an exciting finish.
Anyway, it's strange how fans either love or can't stand a particular driver. For me it was Foyt, and Bobby Unser. Oh, well! Too each his own!
Great looking build Shunter!

I was never an Andretti fan but Mario's such a legend that I have always respected him a ton. When the chance came to get his autograph and meet him, I jumped at it. The guy's mastered F1, Indy, dirt, and so much more - wow!!
This build it great and this car has become iconic. Can anyone think of an IndyCals sheet that gets built so much? I can't! It has to be one of the biggest, if not *the* biggest, selling decals for Michael.
Keep it up Shayne - very nice work!!

Changing the subject was my fault. What I should be saying is how beautiful and slick that paint job is and how great the body is done. NICE JOB!!

I like this. It turned out well and would be a welcome addition to any collection. We are an interesting group in who we like and who we don't. We build our favorites and the others not so much. I built Mario's '69 winner and that will probably be it for me. But, then, I get to look at this and it is great. Jim
