www.indycar.com/News/2012/09-September/9-13-Cunningham-gets-ride-for-finale"Conway, who tested at the 2-mile oval Sept. 12, asked to sit out the 250-lap race. “I’m truly sorry for putting the team and our sponsors in a difficult position, but this is the hardest decision I have ever made in my racing career,” Conway said. “I’ve come to realize I’m not comfortable on the ovals and no longer wish to compete on them. I want to stress that I am not finished racing and to this end, I would love to continue with A.J. Foyt Racing, but that’s something we need to discuss in the future.”"

How do you tell AJ Foyt you don't want to race on ovals after signing a contract with him? He must really be afraid of ovals to have to face that proposition.

Once a driver reaches that point, I'm happy he did the right thing instead of getting in the way at Fontana.

I agree with Jordan, but his career in open wheel will obviously never be the same. It had to be an unbelievably hard decision to make. I have to wonder how many other drivers have had similar feelings. I admire the guy and wish him well.

It must have taken real guts to tell AJ that. You have to admire the guy...
I suppose his only option would be the Rolex/ALMS series now.
