This is my latest completion, a replica of the car Roberto Guerrero took to the pole for the 1992 Indianapolis 500. He set a track record that day with an average of 232.482 mph. The day of the race was cold and windy and on the pace lap Guerrero's car spun and crashed on cold tires, eliminating him from competition. The crash was not indicative of his talent, he was a good racer. It was just a rough day all around (but the finish made it worth it!). The kit is the Tamiya 1/20 snap together Lola painted Tamiya Park Green and I used the EXCELLENT set of Indycals to complete this car. I used alclad for the wheels. I normally build cars that ran before my time, but I always loved the Lolas. I remember watching on television as the Indianapolis pole-winner crashed on the pace lap. I always thought it was a pretty car and I liked Guerrero.

That is a good looking model. Guerrero seemed to be dogged by bad luck. I think he is involved in off road racing now.

Ooohhhh la la, very nice !!! I always wonder what would have happened in 1992 if Guerrero didn't spin out on the pace laps before the 500 started. He sure was a bit of a bridesmaid at Indy. His finishing record at the speedway in his early years was impressive. Fantastic car. Looks really nice, clean build !!! I have his qualifying laps saved on my pc, watching his pole run and listening to Dave DeSpain call it is great

VERY NICE!!!
LOL....brings back memories. we were sitting near the top of Turn 2. so many fans showed up that day expecting it to warm up....and it never did. I was lucky in that I had a windbreaker and jeans. the people in front of us were from out of town. they came in t-shirts and shorts! all the vendors sold out of sweat shirts and pants. pretty funny.
anyway, when he spun down into the grass and hit the inside wall. we were all like 'what the heck was THAT?' and then realized it was Guerrero. too bad his day was over before it began.
and yes, the finish was very exciting. I was pulling for Al Sr in the Menards #27 Buick as he worked his way up and I thought for sure he was going to win......only to have a broken exhaust header cause him to come up short. makes you wonder 'what if' Guerrero hadn't spun..........

I love this car!!!! One of my all-time favs.
Was lucky to be there for Pole Day and Race Day.
I was about 19 years old... and like most college kids lived in a Hooded Sweat Shirt.... AND SHORTS. I honestly remember being embarrassed and covering my legs up with the newspaper lineup because the goosebumps were so noticeable. lol. Was with my grandparents and so many people had left being cold that I stuck up to the Paddock Penthouse to watch the finish as soon as Michael slowed. We all knew right away it was going to be wild.
It's funny, Robin Miller was talking about 1992 last night on Wind Tunnel. People remember it as one of the best all-time but the race was a disaster until the end. I AGREE. I remember just wishing it was over at one point so we could go home... which is unreal for me, I love the race, every minute. Then the end was the saver.

There's one thing on the car that should be noted. The tire Lettering in 1992, which this car ra in 1992, was White. The Yellow lettering began in 1993. I may try and get White lettering for my version.
Doesn't matter though. This car looks Awesome !!!

Roberto hada teammate by the name of Jim Crawford. Does anyone know how it was painted on the Roll-Hoop ? In 1993 the sponsorship changed to Budweiser and Kenny Bernstein entered 3 cars for Roberto, Jim Crawford and Al Sr. The cars had Chevy Engines that year. You can see the Decals for the Budweiser car and the Quaker state car on the Indycals. i alsoi believe Eddie Cheever drove the car the next year at Nazareth becaiuse I watched an open testing session to the public. Mario an Marco Andretti live a few miles from me.. I can hear the practices and races at my house. I met all of the Andretti's except John. Mario and Marco are the Nicest.

The 1992 Indy 500 was the first race with yellow Goodyear logos. I saw it live and I just checked my video of the race to verify. Roberto's crash shows plainly he had a green rollbar with flo orange/red leading edge. I watched Crawford's wreck and cannot definitively see rollbar color. Crawford's wreck was significant because when he collected Rick Mears into the wall, it was the only time Mears ever crashed in the 500 and it was because he was collected by someone else out of control. What a master of car control he was!! I miss seeing him at the wheel!

/hey Guys, I got a question for you about the car. I noticed that the Rear Wing Mount is almost standing straight up on this car and on the Al Sr. Budweiser Lola that this Gentleman built as well. The pictures of the car on the boxes for this kit show the Rear Wing Mount or Vertical Wing Mount to be leaned in towards the car. Which is correct To be honest with you i rather have them like the ones in the pics of the Quaker State car and Budweiser car. Would you guys please let me know I need to get 2 kits to someone to build and we want to do them right. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you, Robby
