Michael at indycals just released the '93 Duracell decal set this past week www.indycals.net/decals/indy/93duracell.htmlThese decals are 'race day' accurate to the best of my knowledge I have some pics of his car at home, but they are not that great quality though

Either "Bee Windows" disappeared by race day, or Michael is missing that on his sheet... there's a couple different decal differences between the Indycals sheet and that pic. Also, those "qual shots" don't always reflect the race day sponsors 100%.

It's in other pictures too. He's also missing the "Hoosier" logo, but I'm not even sure what that is.

Is the last pic practice or race? It doesn't have the Hoosier logo.

Yep, I thought that was part of something else since it was so blurry it is there - just missed recognizing it. Jordan

Thanks guys. This helps out greatly. I have his 93 Mini-champs release but it was not correct decaling for the Indy 500. Since Michael at Indy Cals brought this set to life I thought I would up date my 1/18. thanks again. Although Michael did not include the Hoosier 96 decal anyone out there could help me out with that one? Not that big of a deal but I always like to be as close as possible. Thanks again for the help you guys are the best.

Talk to Michael about it. His service is top notch and he's done his research so he can and will help. Michael's very thorough and I'd give him chance to chime in.

I just went by the Tamiya sheet. Reference material is VERY hard to find for this car. Combine that with the fact that Dick Simon cars were known to literally change every day, unless someone produces a conclusive race day image, I'm not making any mods.

I just checked my shelf and I have no '93 yearbook (there were 2 right?). So, sorry guys - don't really have any references on point that I know of.

The Hungness yearbook isn't very helpful.
One problem with the Bee logo (apart from the fact that there is not enough detail to decipher the graphic), is that the upper part of the logo goes on a part of the car that simply isn't there on the Tamiya kit.

Probably not - it looks like a slightly different variation of the logo but unless someone can provide me with something CLEAR - and that is the bugger, I get a lot of reference material where I'm expected to decipher a fuzzy blob - that's the best it's going to get for now.

Thanks for all the responses the bottom picture is the closest to race day or could be race day. As I started working on the car in the basement I realized I have the Indy review book of 1993. There was a couple of good race pictures in there but that 2nd picture helped out quite a bit on placement. The only thing different on race day so far that I can see is the back wing added Sadia and Indy Tires was below the Vermont Tools and Mobil 1 was moved up next to the ford logo. Michael is correct on the Tamiya kit and also the Mini-Champs die cast that part of the car does not exist. Although on my car I will just put it in the same position as it is as close up as possible. I will have to get those two additions next time I order from you. I will post pictures of the car when it is done. I have a little bit of work to do. The Hoosier 96 logo is correct but there is a little more words on it but I can't tell what they are. Could be FM or Hip Hop I don't know if it was a Hip hop station back in 93 or not. Thanks again for all the help.

Just to follow up on this, while it's still a cold miserable winter here in Indiana I am going to finally update my 1/43 Minichamps to the Indy version. I know it'll never be 100% accurate becasue Dick Simon used a different engine cowl than all the other Ford teams (I guess becasue they were also testing the Buick?) but short of major body work, this is as close as we can get. Does anyone know the backstory of why Mininchamps always did the Michigan speedway car versus the Indy 500? Was there extra licensing involved to add the USAC tech stickers, etc?

If you read on the Mini Champs box It sat PPG Indy Car Series Not Indy 500, The PPG Series did NOT race at Indy. The cars and drivers did but under the USAC banner for this race only, That why some cars had different number at Indy than the rest of the season. Mini Champs made 1 mold for the Lola 1 for the Reynard and 1 for the Penske car and painted them different for each team, If you look at any body no matter which team all the Lola's are the same just as the Reynard's and Penske's

Sure, I know that much (I actually worked for CART teams in the 90's) but I was just more curious about if Minichamps had tried to work out a deal with the 500/USAC, etc. I mean, if you're going to have a speedway wing version - a lot of people are going to want the version and number that raced the Indy 500, that's all. Was just curious.
