I'd look up a good reputable Lionel dealer/collector. This is definitely pre-war tinplate. Very rare bird in relatively good condition. I'd be asking way more than $50 if I were you. Granted, the economy sucks but I wouldn't be giving this away either.

Could also be a Marx piece as well. Still a rare looking piece.
