Looking good, Tim. Would the Herb Deeks pe wire wheels fit those rims and tires? Good wire wheels would be a boon to many of us. While you are moving back to the early 50's, I'm going the other way to the late 60's. Take Care Craig

Tim, here's my thread on this forum: mb2501.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=4162&action=display&thread=1609 I'll get those missing pics re-posted soon! If you'd like copies of my reference pics, I'd be glad to copy them for you. You've got a good start on yours, as I said on the "other" forum, I got stuck on the grille, but the front suspension has been a bear as well. I'm not sure the scratchbuilt suspension I'm doing will hold that mass of solid resin up when it's all done, I may have to hide a couple of props under it! Brian

A few updates... Photo of the car the day after the race... Ride height and tires/wheels shown...do these look correct? Made new air cleaners (the midget's are too small)...strips of photo-etch for the grill....various suspension members... Suggestions & comments welcome... Tim

Most recent pictures...large brake drums are for the front and smaller for the back... Now the question is:what color? Tamiya yellow or chrome yellow? Those of you who have seen this thing in daylight, please let me know; your opinions are welcome...also, should the inside(under the steering wheel) be yellow or aluminum? Thanks in advance for your help! Tim

Johnnie Parsons sits in the middle of the second row; before the day is out, he will have the fastest car and an Indy 500 win... No cracked block, just a little moisture on the head...this same car, with the same engine, will go 500 miles to second place (driven by Mike Nazurak) in 1951... Parsons has driven this car (painted red) to a second place finish as a rookie in 1949... Reunited with the car in 1952, Parsons will drive it to 10th... I'll have to take a better picture of the front suspension; I gotta' show off all that work! This became an obession, but it came out OK...Thanks for looking! Tim

That's a beauty! I've just again been looking at your pictures from first to last and what a project you have pulled off. You're right, the front end looks spot-on and worth highlighting. Piece of cake- right?

Really nice job. You know you have filled all of us with envy. First, for the fact that you even have one of Bill's models to start with. Second, for the just terrific job with the build. Given all the scratchbuild and parts you had to come up with, you make us all proud. Thanks so much for sharing. Glad you have a part of history. Jim

WOW!!! Just got an e-mail from Walt Schaub (oldphotos) that debunks Donald Davidson and his "no cracked block." *** Tim The model looks great, just a few update on the car In 1949 The car was the Kurtis Kraft Spl. #12, Parsons also won the Nat. Championship in this car with wins at Arlington, Tx. Syracuse, NY. Springfield, Il. and Langhorne, Pa. In 1948 Tommy Hinnershitz drove the car at Indy it was a red #7, Walt Brown drove it after indy for a few races. Johnnie parsons took over the ride at Springfield where he finished 2nd He also won at DuQuoin in 1948 in this car. The car DID have a cracked block in 1950 it was discover the day before the race. the reason I know this because my Dad was the one who fixed the cracked block. The Offy doesn't have a head, the block and head are all in one the crack was up in the domed part of the casting by the valves. when building and Offy the valves, pistons, and rods all go in before the crank. With no head are head gasket is why they could run such high compression and not blow up the motor, If they did blow up a rod most of the time when through the side of the block. The car was owned by Ed Walsh from St Louis, He knew my Dad and called him to see if he could fix the cracked block. In later Years before he pasted away I had the privilege to take to Ed Walsh and he confirmed this to me. That's what my Dad did for a living, it was a patented process he had. and Like a dummy I wasn't interested in learning it when I was younger. Back in the 50's teams didn't have spare motors or backup cars like today. And yes the car with the same motor finished 2nd the next year. Hope this helps you know more about this Race Car, This car won more races than anyother Kurtis Kraft Indy Car made. Your model has done justice to this car. Old Photos Walt *** Again WOW! A shot of the front suspension... Acknowledgements: Bill Jorgenson---------body/air cleaner size/wheel & tire size Fred Cady-------------decals Michael Potaro--------panel line decals Russ--------------------rear trailing arms Brian--------------------inspiration Rick----------------------photos Mark---------------------photos Last (but certainly not least)---- Walt---------------------color and history THANK YOU ALL GUYS: I couldn't have done it without you! Trevor, you are correct; without the co-operation and encouragement of all the members this never would have happened. That's what has allowed me to build several of "the cars of my dreams." Have a great day gentlemen! Tim

Great stuff - really enjoyed it and I never knew there was a National Championship race in Arlington, Texas. I guess that track is no longer around!? I go there a time or two a week and it news to me.
Thanks for doing the WIP - it was great to see this come together!
