yeah that's all bmf except for the bumpers, tailight and headlights. the side mouldings were tough as they have no crease line at the body for your knife to follow along. the front suspension was a little fiddly but for the most part it went together pretty well. duane

yea, this is an awesome kit. very detailed and well worth the money. I think I'm making a Lee Petty #42 C300, just to be different.

....and since we ARE in the 1955 mode and talking race cars with fenders, last week I purchased a Monogram Mercedes SL300 race car on eBay. its similiar to the car that was infamously raced at LeMans that year and was involved in "the" wreck. apparently the seller didn't know what he had, as he mistakenly said in the writeup: "the car that WON LeMans in 1955". hummmm.......actually, as most of you probably know, Mercedes pulled their remaining cars a few hours after the accident and a Jaguar driven by Mike Hawthorne won. from what I understand, later in the year the factory Mercedes team decided to get out of racing all together and didn't return until 1985....30 years later. but the kit is rather interesting and will make a good replica of the LeMans version, with a few mods. even plan on having an operating 'air brake'.

Kevin: A very nice kit indeed...I'm using parts from one for the '54 MB streamliner I'm building...go to Strada Sports and check out "Historic Racing Miniatures"...they have a trans kit to do the airbrake and some other mods for $45... The Jaguar that eventually won was involved in "The Accident"because Hawthorne pulled into the narrow pit and triggered the crash although he wasn't hit..when Fangio (co-driver Stirling Moss) was black flagged by MB, I believe he was ahead by 2 laps. I also believe that Lemans '55 was the only race the 300SLR ever "lost"... Model on, brother! Tim

that's right Tim. just recently I watched a story on cable about that race. interviews with not only some of the drivers but spectators as well, some of them the survivors of the accident. it was just breathtaking the stories they were telling and the photography which was enhanced with todays technology was amazing. even the old film of the accident that was supposedly never seen was really an eye-opener to how the accident unfolded. Hawthorne, in the Jag, passed the slower Healey, only to basically cut him off to get into the pits. when the Healey moved over, it appeared to me that he got his right side wheels off the road, over corrected and came back across the track into the path of the MB driven by Levegh. Levegh had no where to go and really no time to react. I wonder.......not knowing how the 'airbrake' worked, if it was directly connected to the brake system, if Levegh hit his brakes and the airbrake deployed, a combination of that and he running up the back of the Healey is really what launched him into the stands? maybe without that airbrake, it would have all been contained on the track. makes me wonder.......what if?
