Here is my first, and to date only, Indy car that is complete. My dad, who got me into building, had started it back in the 70's. At some point after I started glue kits, I got a bunch from him including this one and the AMT double kit with the Lotus and Watson roadster (and cardboard backdrop). He had done a lot of the painting on it, so I decided to pull it out and finish it up. This was back way before the internet, so I just used the instruction sheet as a painting guide. It's far, far from perfect, but I enjoy having it in my collection. Wish I had done a better job with it, especially since the tires don't sit nice and flat, but I don't see a rebuild in it's future. It's just a nice piece of my modeling history. Never did put the windscreen on, maybe because it didn't sit flat on the cockpit cover, and I felt it should. Still have it, the box, and the Wheel Horse. Would love to build another, but not for the prices that these are getting! Thanks for looking yall. Dave

I like it! Leave it like it is. If you ever get the urge to build another you can always get a Gurney Olsonite Eagle and a offy conversion from R&M of Maryland and excellent decals from IndyCals.

Thanks doc! I have managed to save a couple of other of my early stuff, just to have around. Had wondered about the Gurney car, have a reissue of that, but was not sure about the engine. Need to contact R&M about a catalogue!

Hi Dave,
Personally, I agree with you on leaving that one like it is. Lots of memories go with it.
I will be doing mine in the repop of the Gurney Eagle fashion, sorta. slidinsideways was kind enough to make a deal with me for the original kit parts to do the engine swap (he got a R&M of M kit) and oldcalhoun gave me a nice clear copy of the original kit plans. I also got the Indycals decals to do it. I will be doing this one before long!

Hi ya Dave!!!
Leave it be.......It looks good just as it sits. You can get the parts you need to do another one from Replica and Miniatures of Maryland and proper tires as well...Norm Vebber does great work! You can rebuild history and this model is of your history....Nice job too!
Best to you

That's a great looking car. Nicely done! And I am in the majority here, leave it as is. I gave my daughter some of my early builds and now she won't give them back so I've had to re-do them. The more I look at that build, the more I appreciate how good those cars were.

hi dave, i'll agree with the others as i built a model of a modified that my dad had driven many years ago. recently i came across a picture that shows more detail that i missed but the gang convinced me to just do another and keep the one as is. i sure wish he was still with us so i could give him more models of his old cars as he really got a kick out of the ones i did for him and i enjoyed learning from him how they were built! duane

I agree, leave it just as is. It's still a real eye catcher. Great car. H.W.
