Hello all. I live in England and have been modelling various plastic kits on and off since i was a kid. This has been mostly aeroplanes , but i've always loved racing cars of various types - my father used to build engines for various people who owned and raced historic cars. So being around some of these cars in real life was a thrill . Perhaps some of you will agree , that you don't have to see these cars flying past you on the circuit to appreciate them. I think that seeing a racing car up close , stationary in the pits or paddock can be a more interesting experience - the beautiful designs, well crafted parts, the engineering on display. Maybe a good model is like a fine 3D photograph , showing us things we love to look at and appreciate? Anyway , i found this site when i was searching for any information on a Classic Carlectables lola t332 formula 5000 that i had recently bought with a veiw to changing it into the livery and spec of one that my father raced in the early 80's. Looking at a lot of the pictures on show and reading about the builds is so interesting. It really makes me want to do this. Sorry for the rambling! And thanks for having me . Tony

Tony, Our minds are in sinc even though we are on different sides of the world. I agree with you that a walk through the paddock is just as entertaining as watching the driver flog the beauty around the circuit. Even more so for us modelers! I could have used your Dad's talents on my Lotus 18's engine. I sent a nice con-rod through the 105E block! What tracks did you visit and did you take photos? Welcome! Patrick

Thanks for that Gary . Hello Patrick - Sorry to hear about the lotus - sounds expensive . I wish i had taken pictures , but you know what it's like - when you're young you see all these things and you assume it will always be that way. It's only later when these cars are not so easy to veiw that you realise how great it was in the past. My father mostly was builing various Chevy's and Fords for Can-Am , F5000, and saloon cars. Also some Jaguar and Aston Martin stuff too . I remember being a kid and being bored with going to the club racing events in England!!! The circuits i remember were Silverstone, Brands Hatch , Mallory Park , Castle Combe , Thruxton , and Donnington. I was only small but i have a vague recollection of seeing Ronnie Peterson at Silverstone i think, in perhaps the Race of Champions? When the F5000's and F1's were in the same event. My dad had a Lola T332 , and then a Lola T400 , and also a Mclaren M8 that had a Chevrolet Corvair body on it !!! Before those he had a surtees F5000- would it have been a TS8? And perhaps a Lola T142 - but i can't remember those. There are some photo's of the Lola T332 , but they're in the family archive somewhere! I'll try to dig them out. By the way - i like your scratchbuild of the T332 - Very interesting.

Ok Tony...with all those great F5000 cars in the family, what's your Dad's name?
