Hi Guys, I'm in need of a Carousel 1 McLaren M16. Cars finish does not need to be perfect. I'm making a custom of my friend's Dad's Indycar. Drivers name is A Loquasto. He drove the Frostie Root Beer Car in several Indy 500's and other races. We are from Easton, PA which is a few short miles down the road Nazareth, PA home of the Andretti's and Nazareth Speedway. Please let me know if you have a cheap car and pics of Al's car please. Thank you, Robby

Hi Robby,
Any chance you will be offering the decals to build this car?

I knew Al well and his Chief Mechanic was the legendary Clint Brawner, then in declining health. What a guy CB was!!
You also did not specify what scale you wanted.

Sorry, I was mistaken. I have one McLaren missing the cockpit cover and three Eagles which could be combined to produce one conversion.

Thanks Guys, Robby

Finally someone from the northeast area! Robby here's a few incentive pictures for Al Loquasto from the Pocono 500. I took these pictures when I was just a young lad with my uncle's 35 mm camera. Here's Al's first try at the 1972 Pocono/Schaefer 500. The car is Offy powered, but I am unsure of the chassis. Al did not qualify. Al's second try at the 73 Pocono/Schaefer 500. Al used a McLaren M16A but did not qualify again! This car was supposedly the Penske winning car for Donohue for 72. Al qualified 17th for the 74 Pocono/Schaefer 500 and finished 11th. His car was sponsored by a local department store Hess's now known as The Bon-Ton. In 75 Al qualified 20th and finished 12th in the 75 Pocono/Schaefer 500. The car is sponsored by Frostie Root Beer a competitor of A&W at the time. I still have my Frostie Root Beer mug in the cupboard. It's notable that Al has the M16A radiators back on the car after the previous year, along with a 73 engine cowling. 1976 Al qualified 9th and finished 15th at the Pocono/Schaefer 500. Al now had a McLaren M16B. Al qualified 14th and finished 28th for the 77 Pocono/Schaefer 500. In 1978 Al used an Eagle/Offy for the 78 Pocono/Schaefer 500. Al qualified 29th and finished 9th. That would be the highest finish for Al at Pocono. This would be my last year at Pocono until 1987. 1979 was the year of the first "split" between USAC and CART. The race changed names from the Schaefer 500 to the Music 500. Al would qualify again using his old McLaren. Al would qualify 20th and finish 10th. In 1980 Al ran a Lightning/Cosworth qualifying 30th finishing 31st. Al would come back in 1982 at the Pocono/Domino's Pizza 500 with an Eagle/Cosworth qualifying 28th finishing 26th. In 83 Al would run a Penske/Cosworth qualifying 30th and finishing 18th. Al would die tragically in a plane crash in 1991. Robby if you make the decals available in 1/25th scale I would definitely be interested! Jim

Did anyone notice Ashley Judd (Darios wife) in the 6th picture with her famous hat. I am suprise she looks as good as she does after all those years. HA HA Serious great pictures thanks for sharing those. Always neat to see the old days of racing. Post pictures of the finished product when it is completed. Good Luck and thanks again.

Thanks Illeagle1o !!! What great pics of my friend's Indycars. I'm very please with them and so will his son when I send him the pics. Do you know what it says on the engine cowling in the pic for the 1977 Pocono/Schaefer 500. i think it says "Tiffany Group (something?)". I got to see Al race once at Pocono in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. I'm glad I meet and knew him and it was a shame when he perished in that plane crash ,which also took the life of my neighbor Carl Mueller. Both of their both and I went to school together.
If you have pics of the Penske Cozworth Al drove, please send them to me please Calling all Indycar fans !!! I need pics of Al Loquasto's Penske Cozworth sponsored by Action Park. Please send them to me/
Illegal10, do you still live in the Pocono area? I haven't been to any type of race since 2003. i'm now disabled and can't get to the track. i going to try if the track will help me get around the grounds
Thanks Very Much Friend, Robby
P.S. The 1973 photo of Al's car, the Blue car, that they bought from Penske was sponsored by Martin Guitars for your information. Thanks Again !!!!!

I would like to try and find that Frostie's Root Beer car and buy it and fix it up. My Dad was a good friend of his and would love to have it.

The car in the last picture, McCord Auto Supply, is the Bill Finley heavily modified "Fleagle", a one off done from an early Eagle.

The 1973 photo of Al's car, the Blue car, that they bought from Penske was sponsored by Martin Guitars for your information. Thanks Again !!!!! I'll try to answer some of your questions Robby. As far as your first question the sponsor on the rear cowling on Al's 77 McLaren is, "Tiffany Group Tours LTD." As far as your second question, I do not have any personal pictures of Al's Penske Cosworth. I stopped going to Pocono after the 1978 season. Of course now that I'm older I wish I would've kept going. I did return to Pocono in 1987 only to have the Indy cars stop running at Pocono in 1989. Fortunately I started attending Nazareth in 1988. It would only be a short seven years until the split and I would loose interest in Indy cars again until the mid 2000's. Now, I'm sad because there is no Indy car racing in our immediate area. I will look through my references and see if I can find any pictures of Al's Penske Cosworth. I still live in the Allentown Area, not far from Easton. It seems quite lonely here in the northeast when it comes to Indycars. I don't have a lot of contacts with Indy car modelers in our area. We did take a run out to Indy this year and met a great bunch of modelers at the Swap Meets. It was so great putting faces to names. Good luck in quest on finding the info and pics you're looking for. Remember the hunt is half the fun! Jim

Now that the Texas package was a success and the Pocono facility has been improved and repaved, I'm hopeful the Indycars will return there. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking but...

Now that they have dropped China (good) they may be interested in Pocono. Indycar has been talking to Gossage about a TMS season finale.

I had the same thought while watching the NASCAR event. I used to LOVE watching USAC/CART at Pocono. some of the best racing for sure and now, with the 'soft-walls' and repaving, I think its a real possiblity.

Lance Sellers did a beautiful 1971 McLaren M16A. Bill Jorgensen did some nifty conversion parts to make a 1972 McLaren. Both are in 1/25 scale. Unfortunately they are both discontinued. You may find one every now and then on ebay.
