Only 34 cars are entered in this years 500! So much for bumping! I wonder who will be the unlucky guy(or girl)

I bet it will be someone in a Lotus. That narrows it down quite a bit.

I bet it will be someone in a Lotus. That narrows it down quite a bit. Well, that all depends on if they have an engine or not. Man, I remember the days when the list had 60 or 70 names on it.

I hope this doesn't turn into a start and park race in the future.

It saddened me to think that paranoia to defend the pocket book may limit exposure to track time. I remember those dead second day Sundays when nobody would go out before 5 o'clock, got hotter that heck standing on pit row waiting for the shadow to cover the main straight. With the investment in a brand new car, questionable motors, and anything short of perfect weather and track temperature. Big crapshoot for such a small entry field.

There is some talk that one of more of the Lotus teams may try to escape their contracts, given the precarious state of their engine program. It's not about car count, but rather the availability of engines and spare parts. The attractive thing about the previous cars as time went by was the sheer volumes of cars and parts. Taking a step in a different direction design wise, without grandfathering the old cars, will keep the numbers low for a while but it will pick back up.

Could the old cars compete with the new cars? I know it won't happen but would they be competitive?

Good question. The old Dallara's would probably leave these things in the dust. I've heard the new cars are doing good to run at 215.

Tis slim pickings. Lotus sounds like a disaster here in April. Hopefully by May they will look better.
I still expect some serious design changes to the rear ends of the new cars by all teams at Indy. Straight line speed is just not there nor is the new design allowing passing on the ovals. I know growing pains is always a part of a new car but....... Sure wish we would have had at least two car providers instead of the Dallara monopoly.
