A month or so ago I was surfing for some information on the Lola T332 F5000 car. I had longed to build this car for years but there was never a suitable donor. To my surprise I came across a diecast replica of one in 1/18th scale! I freaked out and just had to have one. After doing some research I found out that the replica was made an Australian company called Classic Carlectables but there were no US distributors of thier products. Doing more research I stumbled upon the new and current owner of Mario's real Lola T332. After a few emails he told me he wanted two replicas of his real Lola. He purchased the cars and is paying me to convert them into Mario's car. Can life be any sweeter? Below is the car as it comes which is a version of Alan Jones 1977 Lola. I had to modify the rear body work and remove the flares and am currently working on the large rear boat style wing. I am using a combination of Michaels 74 Mario Indy decals and some of my own. Still a ways to go but I am getting there. More to come. NICE! It sometimes makes it easier to convert the real car into a model if you look at a model. This helps me in my 1/24 T332. Thanks Stu and congrats on the commissions. Patrick

Now that's VERY cool Stu. Building TWO for the owner and I will say... this one is really looking good.

Greetings.... Looking good. A couple of things- the engines were chevy engine orange ( and referred to as "the big orange spacer" by the crew). The exhaust was stainless steel that had weathered to a charcoal grey. Dry sump tank was polished. Radiators were aluminum. Have fun doing the rear wing. I think it was designed by Paul Lamar. It was definetly one of the really trick pieces on the car.

The original car had a clearcoat issue that lifted the gold accent stripes off the car. Destraught I finally re-grouped and stripped the car and completely re-did it. Thanks John. I am most happy with the scratch built rear wing. I had the hardest time figuring out how to make it look like the original. Thanks to Paul Erlendsen for the CAD stuff he did for me!

Hello Stu, Really impressive rebuild. I am about to begin to work on the same model from classic carlectables. I am converting it into the same spec and livery as one that my father raced in club racing in England in the early 80's. I wonder if i might be able to ask for some advice?
I saw that you removed the front upper brake coolers , as i will also have to do . How did you do this? Also - did you remove the front wheels? If so , how is this done?
Thanks to any advice you or anyone else can provide.
During this project i am also going to have to alter the engine as the one i am modelling had Lucas crossover slide injection , also the mirrors will have to be changed.
The biggest problem that i can foresee however will be replacing the rear wheels and tyres. In England they were bigger and a bit wider .
If my attempts are half as good as your's , then i'll post some pictures.
Thankyou all. Tony

Greetings... Looks great. I'm sure Zak will love it. The rear wing must have been a challenge. Hard to tell from the picture but are the shields on the air box two-toned? Tony, what size rear wheels did they run in England. Here they ran18 inch wide. Good luck with the cross flow injection. TJ

Hi Tony, My apologies as I missed reading your questions until now.
The brake coolers are just glued on and you can grab them and slowly pull and they will come off intact.
The center cap on the wheels pops off revealing a screw underneath the cap. I was able to remove the cap using my thumbnail but be careful that the cap doesn't go flying across the room!
Goodluck and I would love to see pictures when you are done.

Hello TJ. I'm not sure about the exact tyre dimensions at the moment - i'm still trying to find out - but they definately look bigger. Mind, i'm also toying with the idea that it was just a smaller rim , but with the same overall diameter tyre - therefore a bigger looking tyre in relation to the wheel!! Not sure - should find out soon.
Thanks so much for that response Stu . Only been on here a week and i'm already getting massively helpful information! I'm sure i'll be needing to ask you more stuff - thanks again.
Tony

Great Build, I have always wanted a version of the Boraxo F5000 that Brian Redman won the inaugural LB-GP in. I think the problem with the tire profile is ( and most manufacturers miss completely) is that this was the era of Big Poofie sidewalls, like they mounted 14" wide tires on an 18" rim. take a look at Patrick's chassis build for references. Exoto comes closest but still a little restrained.
Keep up the great work, Beautiful car!

Holy sh** Stu...! I'm in process of my order for this model which I found just a few days ago. The first thing I thought about was to convert it in Mario's car...- and you already did it !!! I always wanted these F5000 monsters. Great work. I always enjoy your conversions!

Greetings... I had the opportunity to see Stu's work on his third build up of Mario's T332 done for the previous owner. In a word-WOW! Beautifully done Stu. You did, however, miss my blood stains on the left hand exhaust system-damn sharp retainer springs. TJ
