I've wanted to do this one for a long time, just like the car & Emo drove it. It's been on & off the bench for months. Just had alot of problems with the conversion & re-doing the putty b/c of cracking. C1's tooling is horrid on this car. The tops never fit right on the bottom half. Anyway here are some pics of the IP paint work. Sorry I never took pics of the IP body work.
First pic is the design of top of the sidepods. Impossible to mask so I cut white & red vinyl to complete this. Not perfect but it's done.
After laying on the white & blue I masked off for the red stripe. Note I don't paint around the nose, way to narrow of a stripe here, so later I'll finish this part with red vinyl. I form the line with blue tape then finish off with Tamiya & finally masking paper.
After completing the red stripe I separate the red & blue with white vinyl striping. Then 3 coats of clear to nail down all the vinyl.
Now here's what I hate about this custom. The red, white & blue come together at the 2 halves. After I assemble the interior & suspensions I'll glue both halves together PERMANENTLY to close up the poor tooling as best I can. Looking at the pics, you can throw a cat between them. I'll love it when I'm finished just to be finished, but really not satisfied with the project. On this one I had to paint the body with both halves together. Normally I paint all my cars attached to wooden holders so I have control in any position while painting, plus you can't screw a C1 to any holder. I made this holder a few years ago making a 57 Chevy for a guy, so I attached the 85 with double stick tape. Worked very well. Kind of a long story but I had to share my suffering.
