Site's had like no posts in 2 days I think so here's a fun one for everyone here. Who's your favorite Open Wheel driver and how much of his stuff do you have in your collection? Everything scale model related here - builds, kits, decals, diecasts, etc.
So really, how bad have you got it? ;D Post anything - just post!

Just see the post MY Race Room and you can see how bad I have it. If you can't tell Buddy Lazier is my favorite drive you would have to be blind. Besides the over 60 photos(that is just Buddy, not counting the other 50 photos as well)the 14 different 1/18 die cast and 14 different 1/25 models of different cars Buddy has driven. I also have both of the garage signs of his from 2005 when he drove for Panther, along with the complete engine cover from the 2002 Coors Light 500 car that are not even on display in the room.

We all know Jordan's favorite is the Ovalmeister, Rick Mears. No surprise there. For those that have seen my posts, you know my favorite is Mario Andretti. I built his 1987, 1988 and 1989 Lolas. I have the Tamiya 1993 Lola 1/20th scale on the shelf to be built. His 1978 PC-6 (7, 8, 9..hell, I don't know) is also waiting for a little attention. I also have a couple of sets of decals for his cars.
My wish list is for a set of decals that can be used for a McLaren that he drove in 1976. Red #6 with Cam2 markings.

Well, I'm a big Rick mears fan also. I have all 4 of his Indy winners in 1/25, all the Huggness Yearbooks, videos of all his Indy wins and my pride and joy and 8x10 autographed to me!
My other driving hero is the Dale Earnhardt Sr. I have most of his cars in 1/25 (about 20-25). Lots of cards, books etc. and an 8x10 signed also.
I have a bunch of the old Indy winners signed on photos. Rose, Vuky, Flarety, Roberts, Meyer, DePalo, etc.

Mario! Sorry this isn't an open wheel car. I plan on building another 1/20th K Mart Lola but the speedway version this time, his '87 500 pole winner that should have won the race , his Daytona 500 winner and the championship Lotus. I have an autographed copy of his book, "A Driving Passion". A very prized possession. G

Dr Dave you got a pics of those four winners? ;D And what are you Mario guys doing without a '69 Jorgensen kit in your stash. Plus, Bill's done the cool Viceroy car and Lance did the Dean Van Lines car.... still so much out there! Nice builds Duke - this thread needs some pics. Jordan

I just don't have the time to monitor my bids. Besides, as I recently found out, it can get pretty pricey.

If I want something from Bill - I just watch his auctions and bid first at the minimum. I get what I want because I'll get a 2nd chance offer or there will eventually be an auction without opposing bids (though it may take a few cycles). Hmmm I haven't seen that one. You aren't talking about the one with Penske markings are you? This is what I'm looking for Here is the kit I was talking about and again some patience plus persistance netted me this same kit for only $15ish. Jordan

Ok, no pictures to post right now, but I will work on it.
My favorite American open wheel driver is Super Tex. He's running a REAL CLOSE second to Fireball Roberts as my favorite driver. I have kits to build his first two Indy winners, and will find his last two one day. Most recently I picked up an autographed picture of him in his '64 winner.
Juan Manuel Fangio is my other open wheel favorite with the Wee Scot right there, also. I am doing JMF's F-1 cars from the '50s, too. I have models for his Mercedes, two Maseratis, his Alfa, and two of his Lancia Ferraris.

HERE, HERE MONGO!!!!!!!!!!
A.J. Foyt has always been, my favorite driver...in anything because he could drive anything! I have all four of his 500 winners in 1/43 scale and three of his four in 1/25 scale. I even have his 1989 car in 1/25th scale. I have been a Foyt Fan for years...I have all four of his winning cars pics on my office wall and they are all, autographed. There was a time, and I do remember it well, no matter what he was driving, he was fast in it. One race in Milwaukee, when his "Indy" car was there, he took off his Champ Dirt Car, put it on the pole and was leading the race in it until he had to pit....He was truly amazing!
I put Foyt ahead of Fangio, Tazio Nuvolari, Clark, Parnelli Jones and Dan Gurney as my favorites. Also....on a sad note...One other of my favorite was Phil Hill....who died last night. He was a great guy and I was honored to meet him.
Best to you all!

Jordan,
No pics yet!
I've been thinking about trying to cleanup and recast the old Front Motor 91 winner. I did alot of work on Bill's 91 and when I sent it back to him to cast earlier this year (Jan) it was about 90% done. That along with the '82 Wildcat and the '83 March. I keep bugging him to get them out but nothing yet!

That's cool. I didn't know that kit was ever made. What other surprises are there?

Sorry to hear about Phil Hill - he was a great racer!
Steve, I might be willing to let those decals go but let me see what I can find out.... will take some more research!
Kind of surprised to hear Russ is missing an AJ winner in 1/25 - I figured that would be sewn up by now but having them all in 1/43 means it will be cool when he has all four in both scales together!
My list is coming but I went through an inventoried my stuff so it's a little big plus I've got a few "out there" kinda things in my collection! lol

My favorite is Dan Gurney, although you'd never know it by looking at the shelves of completed models.
But in the stash I've got every 1/24-1/25 plastic kit of Dan's cars - with plans in my head for glorious results. Wonderful Indy Lotus, Ford GTs of all sorts, Lola T70, McLaren M7, McLaren M8, stock cars and on and on. Would still like a Harvey Aluminum Special, someday, someday.
And still no F1 Eagle kit available. Arrrgghh.

So, I dropped a load of cash on the vacuform body PC20 on eBay. Other than that, I pretty much have everything that I have heard about so I don't think there are many other holes in my scale Mears collection... ...but I always love finding something new! ;D Jordan

i was raised a stock car kid but my dad (who drove stock cars) and i have always shared a passion for the indy cars. while i've always admired the skill and bravery of the drivers, it's the cars i think i really have the love for. as a guy who builds furniture for a living, i can relate to the skill and artfulness needed to build these cars. when i look at them i see true works of art and i enjoy building the smaller scale versions of them as well. duane

1) Where do you find space to store all of that? My wife gave me my own room in the house we bought when we got married. I lost my lawyer's bookshelf 'cause she didn't like it displaying my racing stuff but I have a room for my PCs, models, poster, etc so I'm pretty happy!! I keep the boxed models in the closet. It's pretty full.... ....we are thinking of moving soon and I need to start packing but I can't until we are out of jinxing range.... lol 2) Is your wife aware of your "disease"? Yes and no (for my own safety) ;D 3) Did you win the lottery to pay for all that? No but if I do - watch out - I'll quit the ol' 9-5 to start my own cottage industry of decals and kits. Focusing on IndyCar stuff of course! 4) When are you going to get that RickMears.com website running? Hopefully soon - it will be a pet project to work on in my "free time." I've worked out the skeleton a few times - time to flesh it out I guess. Need to re-up my domain registration again.... BTW, RickMears.com was another eBay find ;D Just kidding, obviously. By the way, Michael from Indycals got me the little rear wing numbers for the 1986 March. It makes the rear wing look not as big. I'll tell you this, he takes care of his customers. I'll have to see if he'll send me some updates for my three sheets... but you know the website would be worth it if I could swing some review freebies now and then - lol Jordan
