A couple of questions on the '88 Winner. First, anyone have photos from the 500 showing the back of the car? Especially intersted in whether any numbers/logos etc were on the underside of the rear wing. Second, in AMT's kit, the ducts on top of the side pods have a seam across the middle. Any photos showing the duct/ramp (or whatever you call it!) that shows if a smooth duct all the way, or with a seam halfway down? Thanx for any help. Nitpicks, I know, but may as well do it right! ;D

Not sure I will have anything on point reference-wise but I'm pretty sure the bottom of the car is sponsor free and the sidepod was smooth. I think the seam is just a compromise of the technology available in the molding processes of the 80s.
At 2:25 you can see the sidepod in the background - looks smooth to me! ;D
Pretty sure I have the 1988 Hungness book somewhere - not on my shelf, maybe a box???

Jordan, thanks much for the video clip. I agree about the side pods, they look smooth o me! I do notice that the underside of the wing does have the number 5 and PENNZOIL on it, but I will have to see if I can find if that was there for the race, or was added sometime later! Oh, well, the research is part of the fun!! Thanx again! Tom

Difference is the video is of a road course and Indy was an oval. I believe the car only ran logos on the back/bottom of the rear wing on road courses. ....but no one will shoot you if you wanna put them on the bottom!

You promise, no shooting?? Oh, wait, this isn't the Model Weenies from the military/aircraft side--you know, the ones that are more than happy to tell you that your plane or armor model subject "was never really painted that color", or there's only 37 rivets, and there should be 38; yet, they don't have ANY model on display anywhere!! OldCalhoun knows what I mean - we have shared some experiences in that regard! One of the (many) great things I like about the OWRM forum - everyone has helpful suggestions and tips, and we keep in mind that IT"S A HOBBY!! OK, enough soapbox for now!! ;D Tom BTW, we need OWRM t-shirts or polo shirts!!

Hi Tom,
Off topic, sorta, but I know what you mean on the rivet counters. I quit that scene 35 years ago. What's real funny is that I left a 1/32nd scale airplane at a buddy's house when I moved back then and it later won a regional IMPS show! LOL!!!!! It was about 80% done when I left it. I didn't even get a part of the trophy. LOL!!!!!
